Commercial Description:
A complex beer, with layers of flavors unfolding as this beer slides down your throat. Before the introduction of indirect-fired malt kilns, all beers had a smoky flavor. Today only a handful of brewers produce beer reminiscent of those of the past. We use imported German smoked malt to add depth and complexity to our Smoked Porter. Sensory Profile: Aromas of smoked wood, licorice, and dark fruit. The flavor is a balance of smokiness, roasted malt, coffee, and malty sweetness. Food Pairing: A natural match for any smoked or grilled meats. The smoky flavor of the meat and the unique smoky flavor of the beer blend beautifully to elevate the enjoyment of them both.

Another old rating. Aroma was of sweet chocolate and some little smoke. Flavor was pretty smooth but nothing overly impressive. Wow, my ratings really suck.

Growler thanks to dchmela. black body. tan head. Much more malt in the smell than smoke and taste as well. Nice roasty flavor along with chocolatey malt that really compliment the subtle smokiness. Much better as it warms.

Thanks to dchmela for sharing is growler. Light smoke in the aroma, with a little Christmas ham. Flavor is malty and roasty with just a little smoke in the back. Pretty good smoked porter that gets even better as it warms.

Tap at winter brew fest in Mount Holly. Great beer wish i had more than just a tasting of this. Base of smoke from the oak beers doesn’t disappoint.

Tap at Copper Mine Pub, North Arlington NJ. Pours black with small tan head, little lacing. Aroma has a bit of smoke with a nice malty undertone. Flavor is smoky malt with an underpinning of anise and light roast coffee. Medium palate, not too much carbonation. Excellent porter, highly recommended.

genuine toasty smoke flavor that is light and allowing of the true fruit punch and beer flavors to protrude from this interesting and refreshing brew. hops in evidence with burnt expresso and bitter cocoa.... i liked it a lot.

Tap. Poured black with a brown head. Aroma of chocolate and smoke. Chocolate flavor with a hint of coffee and meat in the finish. So damn good.

[1891-20081206] Cask. Grassy hoppy roast aroma has a tinge of peas. Black body with a quick foamy off-white head. Flavour has wine characteristics, fruity roasted skins also sweet and toasted throughout. Full body. Quite nice, a little sweet.
