Commercial Description:
A complex beer, with layers of flavors unfolding as this beer slides down your throat. Before the introduction of indirect-fired malt kilns, all beers had a smoky flavor. Today only a handful of brewers produce beer reminiscent of those of the past. We use imported German smoked malt to add depth and complexity to our Smoked Porter. Sensory Profile: Aromas of smoked wood, licorice, and dark fruit. The flavor is a balance of smokiness, roasted malt, coffee, and malty sweetness. Food Pairing: A natural match for any smoked or grilled meats. The smoky flavor of the meat and the unique smoky flavor of the beer blend beautifully to elevate the enjoyment of them both.

Sampled from a growler at RBSG 08, with thanks to Padrefan. Pours a reddish-brown with a tan ring. Very sweet and smoky aroma, of malt and dark fruit. Taste is also both sweet and smoky and lingers nicely. Really great smoked porter.

On tap. Poured pitch black with nice tan head. Aroma was very smoky, coffee, and chocolate. Taste is like eating a BBQ, very smoky, and little coffe and chocolate. Finished smooth, a nice smoked porter.

Tap. Pour is deep black with white/brown frothy head. Aronas of roasted malt, coffee, and smoke. Flavor is coffee, chocolate, smoke, and malt. Very surprised that I enjoyed this one and I dont like smoked beers at all. Only thing that I thought was wrong, was the body. A little too thin. NIce job CL!

Bottle: You know how some beers can be smoked to where they taste like campfire, or have an ashy or mild salt-like quality to them? Well, this one is straight up meat tray. MEAT TRAY. Not even one of the fancy ones from HoneyBaked Ham, just one of the ones that is like $8.88 at Wal-Mart.

Sample at RBSG from PadreFan I guess; Nose is chocolate and smoke; black with a small tan head; flavor of roasty coffee, chcolate, and a very light hop bitterness.

Growler sampled at RBSG ’08. Pours with a dark brown body topped by a thin, tan head with little lacing left behind. It’s smokey, malty and a little roasty with light chocolate notes. Full bodied, smooth and a touch warming.
