Commercial Description:
This is a big, malty and rich Belgian-style abbey ale. We combined both US- and Belgian-malted barley and a specially selected yeast strain to produce a truly unique beer. This beer was brewed as a thank-you to my father Vince who has helped to make this brewery a reality. It will be brewed once a year and released on Father’s Day. This is a great beer for aging, so lay some down and try it in a year or two! Sensory Profile: Ripe fruit, figs and chewy malt are a few of the flavors you will encounter in this beer. There is an underlying roastiness and caramel sweetness that comes through toward the end. Hops play a background role to the malt character of this brew. Food Pairing: This beer can stand on its own as an after-dinner drink. A rich brew to sip and enjoy, it also goes great with desert or roasted meats. Use this beer as you would a full-bodied cabernet or an aged port.

750ml bottle courtesy of Swolf3, thanks Steven. Nice dark murky brown. Sweet toasty aroma and a little smokey. Sweet flavor as well, a little spicy. Pretty good

750ml bottle, poured in a chimay glass, amber-brown hue, with a thick creamy tan-colored head, leaving some belgian laces, yeasty, fruity, raisiny, toasty malt nose, with a hint of wineyness, and funkiness, with some dried chocolatey coated raisins, with some sweet pruney, date, figgy fruitiness, with some nutmeg, clove, brown sugar spiciness in the aroma with a medium-bodied palate with a yeasty, sweet toasted, caramelized malt, fruity character of dried raisins, plums, dates, figs, with some light chocolatey pralines, brown sugar flavors, with notes of spicy nutmeg, a subtle liquorice, with a faint wine oakiness, leading towards a warming, sweet malty, chocolatey finish.

This poured deep copper in color with a thick head. The nose gave off aromas of caramel apples, yeast, malt and dark fruit all with a sweet and sour element to it. In the mouth it was medium-bodied and very well-balanced. The sweetness, dryness, bitterness and carbonation are all complement each other well. The only thing I wish this had more of would be flavor concentration in the midpalate.

A little darker than I expected. the flavor was sweeter than I expected or liked, lots of malts, not much in the way of balance. Just too sweet and sugary.

750ml. Really not a fan of this style. Even the MS Matrisse didn’t do it for me (thanks Todd!). But I love this brewery, so here goes...

Gusher. Figures. Pours lighter than expected. Thick, cloudy brown/maroon with a decent off white head. Aroma initially yields ligher fruit notes... freshly cut peaches and pear skin. Fruit leather and moist tobacco. A touch of wet leaf pile and earth. Brown sugar and a bit of wet paper bag as well. As the beer opens, a blast of green apple with some mildly phenolic yeast hits the nose. Flavor is a balanced mix of malt and yeast. Brown sugar, caramel, fruit leather and tobacco. The yeast yields a bit of lacto creaminess on the tongue. Apple skin. Slightly earthy. Medium on the tongue with lively carbonation. Finish is rather lengthy, earthy, mostly dry with some tannic fruit skin. Definitely one of my more favorite examples of the style. Thanks Jonathan!

thanks nhorween. nice marroon brown color, not quite as dark as most dubbels i’ve had. nice thin head. smell takes me back to belgium, some dark fruit aroma with fresh wood character, a little bit funky. taste is a bit thin, then sweet and woody. a bit more carbonated than i’d like for a dubbel, but it’s pretty well made altogether. i agree with the description that it’d go well with food.

Draught @ Beer Table, Brooklyn. Pours a clear, dark red brown with just a bit of a head. Nose is licorice and dark fruits, a bit of caramelized brown sugar. Taste is much the same - yeast is subdued for the style, made up for by a pronounced licorice note, dark fruits and caramelized brown sugar, moving to a toasty bread crust as well. Mouthfeel is just a hair thin, medium to start with moderate carbonation, thinning out on the finish. There’s a definite dopplebock characteristic to this one as well, almost like a dubbel-bock. Clean where it should be spicy, licorice where there should be yeasty. Very interesting and different take on an abbey dubbel.

Large bottle. Poured a dark brown with an off white head. The nose is spicy, and malty with a belgian yeast to it. Flavor followed similarly. This is a nice rich double, that has quite a bit of depth for an american belgian beer. Nicely carbonated. The finish is a bit on the thin side, but that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying this very good beer.
