bu11zeye (3656), Frisco, Texas, USA Jan 1, 2007 (750ml bottle, 2006 vintage) pours a murky brown body with a spare off-white head. Aroma of mustiness, brown sugar, dark fruit, and grape juice. Flavor of malt, dark fruit, alcohol, and a hint of cocoa. Lacked much carbonation.
rds (90), USA Aug 26, 2008 A beautiful electric brown color topped by a tan head, this strong malty ale is creamy smooth, with a touch of caramel and wild fruit flavor running low on the radar. Old_Mr_Crow (1015), Seattle, Washington, USA Aug 12, 2008 Bottle.
Deep red-brown with a fluffy large tan head. Lots of dried fruit on the nose, apple cider. Malt-heavy and on sweet side (brown sugar) but pleasantly so, this one turned out to be a very nice surprise. For whatever reason, I actually like the sweetness here. PilsnerPeter (1414), Flushing, New York, USA Aug 12, 2008 Bottle: I’m surprised it took me so long to rate this! Pours a brown/auburn with a strong, creamy, thin tan head. The aroma is sweet with dark fruits- maple, fig, brown sugar, dark Belgian malts and a buttery toffee/chocolate note. Creamy on the palate. The flavor is initially sweet with maple and brown sugar, along with sweet raisiny notes as well. Then it’s followed by some toasted, dark Belgian malt character, as well as a subtle fruit note of dark berries? Toward the finish there’s a nuance of smoked (peat-like) character with a mildly bitter/roasted finish. A balanced and well executed example of the style. (Which many American brewers tend to make too sweet, but not this one) ucusty (1062), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Aug 8, 2008 Hazy brown pour with fluffy tan head. Malty aroma. Flavor is malty, fruity, and very earthy. Nice bitter finish! Haslinger (524), Syracuse, New York, USA Jul 29, 2008 Bottle from the Captain Lawrence brewery. The aroma is malty and fruity. Very rich and a good sipping beer. I shared thebottle with a friend and wouldn’t want to drink the whole thing alone. It’s good but probably wouldn’t go out of my way to buy again
