Commercial Description:
This beer is an American adaptation to the classic Belgian style of beer known as a Tripel. Historically Tripels were brewed to have a very light golden color, a moderate hop presence, and be around 9% alcohol. But we are not in Belgium, so I decided to crank up the hops, dry hop the beer with American Amarillo hops, and brew it to 10% ABV. This is our American Tripel, enjoy. Sensory Profile: Enjoy in a goblet or wine glass. Tropical fruit and honey are the two biggest aromas coming from this lively brew. While the hop bitterness is not as powerful as an IPA, the hop flavor melds nicely with the fruity flavors created by the imported Belgian yeast strain used. Food Pairing: This beer goes great with roasted vegetables, fish and rotisserie chicken. And it can be used as a aperitif before dinner with shrimp cocktail.

Thoe color is a bit a clear with orange tints with some suspended matter but not much. There is a thin head the stays atop the tulip glass with some spotted lacing along the sides. The nose has an extreamly overwhelming pineapple esters with a strong hop finish. You can reall smell the pine and citrus hops with other tropical hints. The flavor has a strong initial hop bitterness as well as booze all over the tounge and side walls of your mouth. The nice after flavor of tropical fruits mainle pineapple, hints of mango and grapefruit linguired in my mouth long after i had drank the beer. I personally like the honey sweet finish that is just as bitter as the first sip.

Thanks to my secret santa for this one. Poured a golden color into the glass with a nice white head. The aroma was apples, must and sweetness. Taste was apples again, touch of spice, herbal hops, must on the finish. Nice balance, hid the alcohol very well. Really refreshing and tasty.

Murky golden-orange in colour with a large and lingering whte coloured head, light patchy lacing. The aroma was sweet, some apples, honey, floral, light spice and yeast. The flavour is fruity and herbal, some honey sweetness and yeast, a bit hot. Quite warming in the mouthfeel, medium body, medium/high carbonation. Finishes spicy, floral and hot.

This was weird. Quite hot and lacking some balance, stange from start to finish.

Bottle received via Secret Santa July 2008. Pours hazy dark yellow with an average, frothy, white head, somewhat lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is average malt (hay, straw, meal), average hops (flowers, pine), average yeast (sweat, earth) with notes of heavy alcohol, apple, pear, and ginger. Full bodied, gritty texture, lively carbonation, and a bitter finish. Average duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness.

750ml bottle procured from the NYC Whole Foods on Bowery, poured into a Stone OG tulip, my first ever CL beer! Appearance is a cloudy golden straw hue, nice big creamy head that gradually erodes to rockiness, light lacing. Smell is a range of citrus and sweet syrupy fruits, Belgian yeast and light pine hops, spices, sugary candy. Taste is met initially by flavorful hops, mostly grassy and floral with light citrus and pine, combined with light sweet fruits (pears and peaches), some candied sweetness and syrup in the middle are muddled by the prickly carbonation which is a bit much throughout, finishes dry and bitter with a touch of sweetness. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, slick and prickly texture, high carbonation is somewhat detracting to the overall presence. Drinkability is moderate, this is a peculiar beer that seems to be a bit off-style with the high hop presence that is compounded by over-carbonation, overall a decent beer but a bit disappointing from what I’ve heard about CL, either way I definitely look forward to trying more styles from this brewery in the future.

Bottle (750ml) -- courtesy of SecretSanta. This was a leaker, it arrived with half the bottle gone. I’m definitely rating it anyway but no worries as my friend has a bottle of this as well, so I’ll rerate it for sure. Let’s see how this held up. Pours a hazy dark orange-gold with a small but lasting fizzy white head. Slightly mild aroma of spices, yeast, grapes and apples, mild grassy hops and plenty of sweet bready malt. Flavour of sweet malt, grassy & resiny hops, candi sugar, spices, yeast and fruit. Dry, bitter finish. Some alcohol but not enough to be detrimental. Not very carbonated but I think that’s cause it’s gone flat from the leaking. This was still very good, I’m anxious to see how good it will be next time! Even in this state this was still a winner.
