Commercial Description:
A similar brewing process to lagers with the use of lager yeast is used in the production of Royal Extra Stout. Fermentation time is much shorter than lagers, and takes place at a higher temperature. Finings traditionally composed of isinglass (fish bladder protein) are designed for yeast removal used during conditioning (storage) prior to filtration. It is also gives the aphrodisiac connotation.

275ml bottle.
Deep dark brown with a lighter brown head. Sweet chocolaty, roasty, fruit smell. Very malty with a mellow fruit flavour. Medium body. Weighted highly on the sweet end of things. Not the beer for me.

12 oz. bottle from The Party Source. Pours very dark brown with a large brown cascading head. Aroma of chocolate, brown sugar, coffee, roast. Sweet flavor of those same ingredients, especially chocolate, plus some licorice. Very sweet. Smooth, and kind of syrupy and some oxidization. Sweet roasty finish. I didn’t have high expectations for this one, and it was all right.

Bottle that I brought home from Dominica during a cruise: Nearly opaque pour- oily looking with a rich brown head. The aroma is one dimensional- salty charred barley notes with some oxidized character. Silky feel with a sweet flavor. Despite the sugary sweetness it’s fairly thin and well attenuated in texture. Some molasses, chocolate, brown sugar and a touch of soft roasted barley notes. Quite boring and sweet but there’s no major off flavors and it’s somehow drinkable.

The aroma is pretty complex, roasted coffee, chocolate, fruit, brown sugar, slightly sour (??). It’s unique, perhap due to the use of lager yeast?? Anyway, the appearance is true to the style, deep brown/black, tan head. The flavor is chocolate, fruit, again sour, like vinegar. Not much roast (wierd). Some licorice in there. The mouthfeel is medium, slightly on the thick side. The finish is mostly brown sugar, maybe some roastiness. Better than expected, althogh not great. Certainly sweeter than expected, and an unanticipated complexity.

Caramelized sugar taste, caustic, unnatural, but delicious. Could not drink a second without going into a diabetic coma, tho. Muck like Dragon Stout, but a little sweeter. Bottle at Abraxas Lounge, Miami Beach.

Actually, mine was brewed in St Kitts and Nevis, although still by Carib Brewery, and came in a tiny 9.3oz (275ml) bottle. The pour produced a solid three fingers’ worth of fluffy light brown head topping off a body of near black opaqueness. Aroma was quite nice, with highlights of coffee and malts. The taste, however, was by far too sweet and essentially ruined what could’ve been a fairly good beer. There were the flavours of dark chocolate, malts, and lots of coffee at play. Good mouthfeel and finish, at least.

Bottle: Pours a barely transparent dark mahogany with a thin, wispy light tan head. Aroma of sweet sugary molasses and dark malts with some sugar plums. Starts with decent fullness and lots of sweet dark sugars and fruity notes. Finishes thinner with plenty of brown sugar sweetness. This needs more of a malty presence and less cane sugar.

Thanks to rustychiles for bringing this back for my fiancee and I from his recent trip. Pours jet black with minimal head. Aroma is sickiningly sweet fruity aromas. Taste is cloying, fruity, phenolic, and a hint of roast. Very thin body. This one is too difficult to muscle down.
