| 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | May 12, 2004 I would have a really hard time distinguishing this one from any other Canadian macro if I were tasting it blind. The alcohol is slightly more apparent in both the aroma and flavor. Not worth anyone’s time. pootzboy (1048), Hawgville, Ontario, Canada

I used to drink this when I first moved out on my own in Alberta. It was THE "cowboy malt likker" they sold at all the cabarets. My 3 roomies and I drank oceans of this stuff. Haven’t touched it since the mid 80s in Calgary when it was brewed at 6.3% abv. A friend of mine recently came for a visit and to recall old times he brought a six of OK extra old with him. We cracked a few on the patio and it was a discouraging change from my normal imbibing habits.
I do not recommend this beer for those mega brew fans who like light pilsner style beer for hot days or those looking for the smoothness of a higher ABV ice beer. This is a heavy tasting strong ale with all the rough edges that the ice process was invented to remove. This is how I remember the classic higher ABV longer aged Canadian beers like Brador at 8% or Carrington Toby at 6% or Dow Blackhorse or OKeefe Extra old stock at 6.3%
Mine poured a darker honey color, with a 1 finger white head that goes quickly. Odors of alcohol and caramelized malt. Starts full bodied with lots of malty- raw veggie and astringent tastes then sits on the tongue blending with a nutty yeast taste then finishes fairly heavy with a lingering malty alcohol-warmth if you can resist the urge to gag.
This was the "ice beer" of the 70s and 80s out west. It’s a classic malt liquor from an old O’Keefe recipe for a strong ale that Molson’s acquired and marketed quite successfully in Western Canada. gord (36), harbour grace, Newfoundland, Canada

| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Mar 28, 2003 Thin aroma. Quickly dissipating head. Thin lacing. Crystal clear. Not bad for malt liquor. Maybe there isn't room in a 12oz can for the gasoline flavours you get with a 40oz. Light alcohol aftertaste makes up for the low ABV and gives you something to consider while drinking. Really just an average macro. TipsyMcStager (943), Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Alot of people mock this beer but I've had worse. Mildly refreshing, alcohol is well hidden. Does have a malty mouth-feel. Not much in the way of hops. Sweet flavor with a little corn twang. Just a little funk and very little bitterness. One of the best malt liquors I've had, which isn't saying much. I wonder if I am drinking the same thing as the other raters...
