Big head as expected with some decent carbonation. Pour is black. Taste is loaded with burnt malts and bitter coffee that mellows over time. scrizzz (1337), kirkland, Washington, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 14, 2009 Dark black, sandy tan head rose a bit slowly to for a thick barrier. Little sweetness, balanced dark roast aroma. Fresh brewed coffee flavor. Good weight, consistent flavor, pleasantly dry finish. This grew on me as it warmed, very good. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Mar 8, 2009 750 ml swingtop Black pour with a brown head. Roasted malt aroma. Taste of roasted malt and a little bitterness. Leaves a nice aftertaste of roasted malt. Left a nice lace on the glass. The stout leaves a nice dry aftertaste in my mouth that lasted quite awhile. heemer77 (4311), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 23, 2009 Bottled for rating 4,000. The perfect black body was topped with a light brown sugar colored head. The nose is sweet with some green beans and dark chocolate. There is also some dank mossy character that makes this seem almost like an aged beer. This left lots of lacing on the edges of the glass. The silky smooth mouth feel has just the right amount of carbonation. The notes of dark chocolate and plums come through strong. There is also roasted coffee and a little bit of bread crust in the finish. A little too much like cheap coffee for that finish. Overall, it is a good brew, but a little too dry and ashy. after4ever (2828), Brier, Washington, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 22, 2009 Bottle. Jet black with a towering thick tan head. Thick woolly lace. Rich woolly lacey chocolatey presense. Sweet and mild and but it had a definite dimensionality to it as well. Very pleasant and sessionsable stout. hair-old (137), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
