Flavor is thick sweet liquid candy malt. Sour bittering causing me to belch so little disturbance on the palate. Sticky sweet aftertaste on palate. MoritzF (4995), Bochum, Germany
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 6, 2009 (bottle) Clear, ruby amber colour with a big and beige foamy head. Roast-malty aroma with toffee, notes of liquorice and shy traces of herbal hops. Sweet-bitter flavour, light bodied with a moderate carbonation. Roasty malty taste with notes of dark bread, toffee; moderately dry and toasted, slightly bitter and subtle fruity finish. One of the better Irish Reds I have had so far. 06.XI.09 thornecb (1799), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Oct 30, 2009 Pours deep brown into a shaker. Off-white head quickly subsides to mottle surface. Sour malt aromas. Crisp with upfront caramel and a thin, dry, lasting finish. keepersj12 (810), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 30, 2009 My rating is a bit higher than most. I thought this was more like a Belgian ale than an Irish Red. Very dark brown with a hint of red in color. Aroma of caramel and roast malt. Flavor is similar to aroma with a bit of bitterness at the end. Dry finish. I liked it. sound67 (215), Offenbach, Germany
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 24, 2009 50cl bottle, slightly different (newer) design from the one shown here. Dark reddish copper colour, big - but only temporary - beige head. Intense aroma of sweet malt, some chocolate and dark fruit. Caramel and muted dark cherry taste with a long, bitter chocolate/spice finish. A stronger brew than the style might indicate, but the mouth feel is a bit watery. Smoky aftertaste. Not bad. williamherbert (466), Syracuse, New York, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 18, 2009 Has a dark red color, clear and glassy. No head, only a thin film at the top. Some halfway decent lace.
Smell is an excellent sweet ale malt aroma. Has more of a dark grape than a roasted Irish Red smell. Deep berry rules the nose. Some more bitter, roasted German malt as it warms.
The taste of this ale is sweet with some sweet and bitter at the end of the sip. More nutty than the aroma would indicate. Balanced between a grape sweetness and a roasted, nutty malt. Not bad at all.
Feels a little ashy, but smoother as it mellows out. Overall it’s a pretty good beer with more sweetness than an anticipated. Good balance, nicely done. spkldhenlvr24 (465), Newburgh/Buffalo, New York, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 16, 2009 Bottle. Pours a reddish copper body with a small biege head left with a thin ring. Aroma is roasted malts with some cherry and wood notes. Flavor is again, roasted malts with a hint of sweetness. Lighter body. A bit of a soapy finish. Drinkable, but really missing some good flavors here. I love Irish ales but this one falls short of some other good ones I’ve tried.
