A black coloured beer which pours with a very small tan coloured head, which soon disappears. The aroma is burnt malts and some smoky charcoal. The taste is more roastiness and some burnt chocolate. Quite harsh in its bitterness for a beer of this type, and a little one dimensional but still a good drink. MiP (9159), Sønderborg, Denmark

Sweet liquorice flavour with a nice alcohol warmth. Aftertaste is nice and bitter, but a bit short. Thick mouthfeel. LaChad (1375), San Francisco, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 18, 2006 Bottle. Opaque black, very nice looking tan head. Some estery qualities, slightly sharp aroma, interesting chocolate flavors don’t really show up until the finish. Needs more smooth qualities - despite the label, my "dark-o-meter" points more to porter than stout. Doesn’t taste anywhere near 7.8%. Nice smoky/licoriche qualities. Nose is mad malts, very crips, with some nuts and smoke. Taste is mostly roast with some cocoa, light hopping near the end. Medium bodied, silky, just the right amount of carbonation. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 16, 2005 Bottle... This beer rocks!... Clear, deep, dark ale with mahogany highlights. Small, beige head. Chocolate, coffee, toffee, toasted nuts and light smoke in the aroma. The chocolatey, malty flavor delivers notes of light molasses and alcohol. Full-bodied and syrupy with lively carbonation. Finishes bitter and warming. A world class beer from Carlsberg. Who knew? Thanks go out to JensenTaster for the bottle!
