| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 12, 2005 Bottle; This is the first time I’ve had this for years (actually the first time since they changed the name from Gl. Carlsberg Porter to Carls Porter and also changed the beautiful old style label pictured on this page to the horrible one the beer has now.) However the important stuff is in the bottle; pours completely black with a light brown head, that - sadly - diminishes very quickly. Very roasted character: coffee, rye bread, bitter chocolate. Flavours are "burned" and the bitterness really sings in this one (the only truly bitter beer in the massive Carlsberg portfolio). The bitterness is nicely balanced though by more than medium sweetness. A very good beer, that Carlsberg should be proud of. Why is it that they seem to have all their beer except the pilsner relabed to the "Carls [..]" label? Are they ashamed to put the Carlsberg name on their products (and if so, shouldn’t they do something about it)? Papsoe (14996), Frederiksberg, Denmark

Pitch black beer with a brownish head. Incredibly spicy nose with lots of smoke. Very, very full-bodied with burned malts and an underlying sweetness. Sharp bitterness - both from malts and hops. A very solid brew to be enjoyed in small quantities. 020901

Weak aroma, sour bitter taste. Average finish, a bit too lively carbonation for a stout. I was a bit disapointed about this beer. But it got another chance and this one scored a bit better in aroma and taste, so it went from 2,8 to 3,3. Storm (2685), Amager, Denmark
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 30, 2005 33 cl Bottle. No yeast in bottom. Reddish black colour with a small head. Not much aroma but notes of roasted malt. Good clean roasted taste with some bitterness into the end. Not much to tell but try not to drink this beer too cold. I prefer at 10-12 degrees. turbothy (722), Bonn, Germany
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 26, 2005 Pours dark dark brown with larger-than-expected beige head. Aroma: very roasted, hoppy. Flavour: rather nice, very roasted. Alas, the mouthfeel is a tad watery. Good effort Carlsberg! austinpowers (2828), New York, New York, USA
| 1.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 3/20 | Jul 15, 2005 Absurdly massive roast flavor, like liquid smoke was poured into the bottle. Thin body. Poor effort. weepingsuds (222), Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA

Nice thick and black as a cave. Small thick creamy brown head. Tastes of heavy malt, coffee, and oak. Smooth and full of body. But difficult on a full stomach. This is a beer to fill you up and keep you satisfied. Heres to a 100 more.
