Commercial Description:
Pasteurised strong lager.
First brewed in 1959. Sold in a 330ml bottle in 1989 as "the beer you will never forget". In May 1996 Elephant Beer was repackaged into an emerald green 275ml bottle.
UK version is brewed at the Carlsberg Northampton brewery.
Carlsberg Elephant Beer is an amber-coloured beer with big intensity in its aroma, and with a distinct maltyness. There is notes of honey in the aroma. The palate of Carlsberg Elephant shows a good balance between a good body from the alcohol, and a discrete sweetness which is tamed by the sophisticated bitterness of the aftertaste.

Amber pour, mid-sized head fades to a thin layer. Aroma is quite weak, there’s some grassy European hops, boring grainy malt and cardboard. Flavours show the same grassy hops before the alcohol and metallic bitterness take over in a horrible finish. Prickly mild carbonation takes away some of the flavour (thank god).

ben4321 sums up my thoughts. I do still grab six of the from time to time. They would get bought more if they were priced relative to better beers in the range.

malty aroma, clear with distinctly mild maltiness in the flavor. Light on the palate, but it is strong.

Overall Impression: A "strong" lager with a cool label, and because of that and it’s ABV, a beer I use to buy a lot before I really got into beer.

Bottle. Typical Euro-trash macro lager. Dark gold color w/ a light white head. Smells like skunky piss w/ a hint of malts. Not so bad when it goes down, the sweeter part comes out. Light bodied. Totally unremarkable.

I likes dis malt likker coz it gets me drunk quicker. Sorry ’bout that, but the poetic muse was upon me. This started with a solid, three-fingered foamy white head above a body of darkish gold. Things are okay so far. Shall we venture further? Aroma is a meld of hops and malt. Tastes, well, better than I’d expected with no shortage of malt. Mouthfeel was inoffensive, offsetting the rather "sharp" finish. Not as good as Crest Super Lager.

11.2 fl oz bottle purchased as part of a mix a six at Lukas in Overland Park, Kansas. 20901302 stamped on the bottle. Pour is clear golden yellow with a nice looking two inch white head. The head settled to about one inch, and then lasted long. Initially, quite a lot of carbonation bubbles, and then quickly went still. Aroma is initially strongly skunky, but that passes fast. Behind that is fairly muted toasted malt and some earthy floral hops. Once you are past the skunk, not a bad nose, just dull. Taste really took me by surprise, this was a nice looking beer with a benign nose - but the taste is immediate and quite off-putting. Get slightly vegetal maltiness, bitter floral hoppy - and chemical sweetness (think cheap coffee flavoring). And the booze, there is a lot of booze in this. The finish is dirty grassy. Palate is medium thin, watery, decent carbonation level. The finish is long, grassy and very hot. Fortunately, the finish has honey sweetness, that is only somewhat "industrial" tasting. The aroma and appearance of this beer really saved its score. Hey Matt, you should check this one out next time you need a Russian Lager flashback.

From tap: quite similar to the regular carlsberg, with some alcohol in the flavor and a bit more flavor with is still close to nothing, not horrible but still quite bad.
