Commercial Description:
Pasteurised strong lager.
First brewed in 1959. Sold in a 330ml bottle in 1989 as "the beer you will never forget". In May 1996 Elephant Beer was repackaged into an emerald green 275ml bottle.
UK version is brewed at the Carlsberg Northampton brewery.
Carlsberg Elephant Beer is an amber-coloured beer with big intensity in its aroma, and with a distinct maltyness. There is notes of honey in the aroma. The palate of Carlsberg Elephant shows a good balance between a good body from the alcohol, and a discrete sweetness which is tamed by the sophisticated bitterness of the aftertaste.

a pretty average brew. one nice point is that the alcohol is not very apparent for it’s strength. it is a bit malty and a little bitter going down, but not too bad.

Bottled. Golden colour, medium white bubbly head, which disappears quickly. Aroma of malt and alcohol with hints of hoppy bitterness. Sweet malt in flavour with hints of alcohol and grassiness. Typical strong beer, nothing special. Bitter aftertaste.

Pours to a medium head, and a yelllow color. Slightly skunky, yet sweet smell. Taste is also skunky and kinda musty. Very "blah" flavor, slight alcohol and bitter taste. Lasting bitter finish.

Bottle: Gold with a small and fading milky-white head. Dusty caramelised malt with quite a bit of phenolic action and not much hop. Malty, spicey, phenolic flavour wich totally lacks any depth or character. Sickly in a weird way.

50 cl can @ 5°C. Bright corn-yellow with thick, creamy off-white head, with excellent retention.Slight aroma of alcohol and some sourness. Flavor is rather onedimensional, Relatively fruity for a lager with maltyness and alcohol, leading to a long bitter finish. One of the few danish strong lagers that I actually enjoy - if served cold, it goes very well with many traditional danish dishes.

Malt liquor dressed up in a fancy "import" bottle. Slightly better than most things you would find in a 40oz bottle, but not much. Sweet, skunky maltness and little else. Only thing to balance this was an alcohol taste.

A generic eurolager, but certainly not a crappy one. Light gold. Nose lightly malty, kind of sweet. Sweet flavor, quite grassy, some breadiness but mostly sugary. Not horrid.

A little harsh going down. One dimensional golden beer. Not bad, but there are better options.
