Commercial Description:
Pasteurised strong lager.
First brewed in 1959. Sold in a 330ml bottle in 1989 as "the beer you will never forget". In May 1996 Elephant Beer was repackaged into an emerald green 275ml bottle.
UK version is brewed at the Carlsberg Northampton brewery.
Carlsberg Elephant Beer is an amber-coloured beer with big intensity in its aroma, and with a distinct maltyness. There is notes of honey in the aroma. The palate of Carlsberg Elephant shows a good balance between a good body from the alcohol, and a discrete sweetness which is tamed by the sophisticated bitterness of the aftertaste.

Bottle THANKS TO MY COUSIN FOR TRYING TO KILL ME. Pours clean bright gold. Emits a swampy stench like alligator farts, the skin of old people, and cabbage. This beer is acrid, sordid, rancid, and not fit to fuel the engine of an automobile. Is fit for lighting on fire and sticking up Dick Cheney’s ass. One of the grossest things I’ve had.

Bottle from Oakes and Beershine. Damn this is some nasty ass shit. Smells like malted feet. Tastes even worse. Just plain bad.

As Carlsberg Elephant Malt Liquor. Funny, I didn’t know the Danes were into their malt liquor, but I digress. Pours golden with little head or foam on top. Aroma is weakly of rice and corn, like a typical lager. Flavor is an odd mix of metal, skunkiness, again rice, and a little malt. Tastes like a cross between King Cobra and Heineken, literally. Not really interesting in any way, just plain not-good. Better than most lagers and malt liquors though. Overall, fair minus.

500mL can found in the ’closeout’ bin post Saint Patrick’s Day. I don’t know how it got mixed in with a bunch of UK beers...but another interesting beer to try on the cheap. Makes me remember Carlsberg beers consumed in Malawi as a Peace Corps volunteer and think back that none of them were this bad. It’s just a lot of alcohol in a golden yellow delivery product. I’d rather drink an IPA with the same abv if alcohol was the only reason to drink.

Light golden yellow color with a very thin white head. Skunky, sour aroma. Pale hoppy taste with a hint of citrus.

I would say that this beer is to Heineken as Pepsi is to Coke; same kind of funkyness with just a slightly different aftertaste.

Had this beer a couple years ago. Smelled malty and skunky. Some taste of straw and grass. Not enough hops Skunky in flavor and smell, it was hard to appriciate.

Has kind of a hefeweizen appearance to it even though I think it’s offically classified as a malt liquor. It smells worse than it tastes.
