Commercial Description:
Pasteurised strong lager.
First brewed in 1959. Sold in a 330ml bottle in 1989 as "the beer you will never forget". In May 1996 Elephant Beer was repackaged into an emerald green 275ml bottle.
UK version is brewed at the Carlsberg Northampton brewery.
Carlsberg Elephant Beer is an amber-coloured beer with big intensity in its aroma, and with a distinct maltyness. There is notes of honey in the aroma. The palate of Carlsberg Elephant shows a good balance between a good body from the alcohol, and a discrete sweetness which is tamed by the sophisticated bitterness of the aftertaste.

Has kind of a hefeweizen appearance to it even though I think it’s offically classified as a malt liquor. It smells worse than it tastes.

Perhaps they ought to sell this in nips, because I was pretty happy with the first half of the bottle, and not so much with the second. Pours a clear golden color with lots of bubbles. Aroma is of skunk, hay, and some odd sweat, This is like some sort of pilsner malt liquor clone. Tastes very crisp and very straight forward, that is to say nothing particularly exciting. There are the classic grainy flavors of the good European lagers and it’s well balanced but the bitterness is weird at first it’s very nicely hoppy but then the bitterness just lends it’s self to a burnt rubber chemical character that is not so great. There is a mild alcohol in the flavor and the texture is a little watery.

Merci!

Gold pour with strong malty aroma and light skunky taste. Better taste than most lagers, and some bonus for alcohol content, but otherwise nothing special.

Bottle (in NZ). A dark gold with a fizzy head. Strong malty aroma, but with a chemical hardness. Drinks OK - a lot of that maltiness on the palate, though I didn’t find it too sweet, and a earthy bitterness.

Blikje van 0,5 liter. Ik dacht dat deze nogal goed gewaardeerd werd. Nu blijkt dat ik hem nog beter vind dan de rest. Ik vind hem niet veel zeggend.
