Commercial Description:
Pasteurised strong lager.
First brewed in 1959. Sold in a 330ml bottle in 1989 as "the beer you will never forget". In May 1996 Elephant Beer was repackaged into an emerald green 275ml bottle.
UK version is brewed at the Carlsberg Northampton brewery.
Carlsberg Elephant Beer is an amber-coloured beer with big intensity in its aroma, and with a distinct maltyness. There is notes of honey in the aroma. The palate of Carlsberg Elephant shows a good balance between a good body from the alcohol, and a discrete sweetness which is tamed by the sophisticated bitterness of the aftertaste.

12oz bottle. Poured a golden yellow with a large white head. Smell is grainy and mildly sweet smelling. Taste is alcohol and a bit of bitterness, sort of sweet. Tastes like malt liquor. The finish was dry and very alcoholic. The body was medium.

Pours a orange yellow with a thin white head. Aroma of sweet malts with a hint of alcohol. Flavor matches the aroma and is pretty smooth. Drinkable.

Bottle. Poured a weak amber with a near white head. Aroma was full of sweet malts and even a bit of honey. Flavor was a bit overly sweet with an alcohol bite at the end.

Bottle. Pours clear gold with a rocky white head that doesn’t last long. Grainy aroma with a soapy undertone, not very nice. Flavour is malty and slightly sweet with hints of caramel and citrus. Thin mouthfeel with a lot of carbonation and a lingering woody, metallic finish. Drinkable on a hot day but overall not particularly good.

This beer is great for the alchohol content and being that its a malt beverage. The smell is skunky and the taste is a bit weak other than sugar malts.

500ml can, silver color with elephant logo. Pours a slightly reddish golden yellow, with medium head, little lacing. Medium carbonation, boozy mouth feel due to the high alcoholic volume. Strongly bitter taste of roasted malt, growing even stronger as you keep drinking. Grainy taste, despite alcoholic head note throughout. Dry finish, lingering bitter after taste. If you like a certain grainy bitterness, and if you can accept the alcoholic note to be so upfront, then this is your strong beer. If you like your ale a little smoother, a little sweeter, a little less "brusque", then steer clear of Elephant beer. ;=)
