Commercial Description:
Criollo Stout is the latest in Carlsberg’s Semper Ardens range of exclusive hand-brewed beers. The name comes from the Criollo cocoa beans used in the chocolate that is added during the brewing process. Among the malt types used, chocolate malt and caramel malt deliver the lightly burnt, sweet malt aroma together with the black colour. Rye malt contributes and characteristic acidity and taste nuances. Pilsner malt is also used. Criollo Stout is unfiltered. The remaining yeast adds body and a certain dryness in the finish. A small amount of English liquorice is also added and the stout is hopped with a carefully chosen bitter hop together with a Saaz aroma hop.

Bottle, DBF 2004. Red black, thin white head and moderate condition. Pleasant but undemanding aromas of coffee, liquorice and roast barley. Mouthfilling sweet coffee and roast barley with a faint tangy edge, and a delicate roasted finish with hints of dry chalkiness.

clear dark brown colour with a fine head, aroma of praline, notes of alcohol and licorice, sweet and light- to medium-bodied, slightly salty, deep chocolate aftertaste - balanced and very pleasant but could afford a stronger body

Deep, dark brown with a thin, off-white head. Sweet cocoa, chocolate syrup, sticky caramel, toasted bread and a little molasses. The body is of average thickness but is smooth and creamy. The flavor has a pretty nice balance, though the sweetness eventually wins out. Cocoa powder is stirred into lightly roasted coffee and sweetened with warm caramel. There is a bit of burnt toast that is consumed along the beer, but it may be half a piece for the entire 70cl bottle. A tasty Dannish stout courtesy of BierKönig! Skål!

Very dark color, brown head. Aroma of black chocolate, coffee, roasted malts. Taste is sweeter for a stout, again the chocolate and roasted malts. Bitter palate.

Bottled. DBF 2004. Dark brown. Fruity aroma with yeast notes. Chewy flavour with dried fruits, such as plum. Dry finish. Full-bodied.
