Inoffensive style and somewhat lighert in palate weight than the beer (I think) is trying to emulate (Tooheys Old). Excellent colour - its actually black! bridge (659), Sydney, Australia
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | May 5, 2006 Ah, CUB’s product on the market to tempt the Toohey’s Old drinker away from the evil Lion Nathan. Not a bad clone really, but a bit behind in most aspects. Quite sweet and malty, but not much in terms of hop presence. Weak roasted malt aroma, with a hint of chocolate syrup. Too watery on the palate, probably due to the sweetness. Could be worse, considering it’s stablemates. Spiesy (2333), Global Citizen, Greater London, England
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 29, 2006 Draft, at the Royal Hotel, Randwick, Sydney Aus. Jet black (darker than Toohey’s Old, its head-to-head competitor) with a off-white head. Plenty of fizz. The flavour is slightly sweet with little flavour left on the palate after the initial sweet surge. CaptainCougar (5526), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 24, 2006 Pours a dark mahogany with a thin light-tan head. Toasty, lightly burnt dark caramel malty aroma. Body starts with a sweet sugary earthy caramel flavor turning slightly sticky toward a thinner lightly roasted finish. An ok porter and not as bad as its ratings might imply. goldtwins (4084), Nesconset, New York, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Mar 18, 2006 Poured a clear dark golden brown with a small beige head. The aroma is roasty and very fruity with a touch of chocolate and notes of bubble gum. The flavor consists of roasted malt and some fruitiness that is mainly of grape candy. Dry finish that is a little thin. omhper (12283), Stockholm, Sweden
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Feb 7, 2006 Draught in Jindabyne. Dark brown with small creamy head. Syrupy nose. Sweet and lightly roasty with clean, hard mouthfeel. Soem soapy hops leads to a drier finish with low bitterness. Inoffensive. vomitgirl (13), Pilsen, Czech Republic

and why is it no longer on tap anywhere? even at the clare? (CUB pub) thehipone (197), Australia

When cold there is a distinct chocolate aftertaste with a clean bitterness. Once it warms up even A LITTLE those damned PoR hops charge in with that metal/chemical taste and overwhelm what was initially a decent taste. Like nearly all other mass produced Aussie beers, keep it REALLY cold.
