| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 24, 2006 Pours a dark mahogany with a thin light-tan head. Toasty, lightly burnt dark caramel malty aroma. Body starts with a sweet sugary earthy caramel flavor turning slightly sticky toward a thinner lightly roasted finish. An ok porter and not as bad as its ratings might imply. duff (5475), Surrey, Greater London, England

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Mar 18, 2006 Poured a clear dark golden brown with a small beige head. The aroma is roasty and very fruity with a touch of chocolate and notes of bubble gum. The flavor consists of roasted malt and some fruitiness that is mainly of grape candy. Dry finish that is a little thin. DuffMan (2774), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada

Toohey’s Old, but one step behind. If you are really after a nice dark beer, spend the money on something that actually has some character and flavour. Is it an inside joke that this is called a porter by RateBeer? Spiesy (2333), Global Citizen, Greater London, England

Jet black (darker than Toohey’s Old, its head-to-head competitor) with a off-white head. Plenty of fizz. The flavour is slightly sweet with little flavour left on the palate after the initial sweet surge.
