Normally the only CUB beer I like is VB (because it and I have a long history together), but this one stood out for me. I had it on draft on a hot day, and I found that it drank like a lager whilst having that roasted barley flavour of the stouts - a nice little combination. I’ll try it again soon and see if I wasn’t just swept up in the circumstance of the time. CaptainCougar (5517), Rockville, Maryland, USA

Toasty, lightly burnt dark caramel malty aroma. Body starts with a sweet sugary earthy caramel flavor turning slightly sticky toward a thinner lightly roasted finish. An ok porter and not as bad as its ratings might imply. lasonovich (151), Australia

Its not very malty and overall a little bland. hoppers (3), Australia does not count | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 13, 2005 Doesnt seem to have as much body or head to it when first offered on tap a few years back. At first, like others have noted its a bit watery then the roasted malt flavours come out. Got Better as the chill went out of it.

Jet black (darker than Toohey’s Old, its head-to-head competitor) with a off-white head. Plenty of fizz. The flavour is slightly sweet with little flavour left on the palate after the initial sweet surge. goldtwins (4083), Nesconset, New York, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Mar 18, 2006 Poured a clear dark golden brown with a small beige head. The aroma is roasty and very fruity with a touch of chocolate and notes of bubble gum. The flavor consists of roasted malt and some fruitiness that is mainly of grape candy. Dry finish that is a little thin. duff (5475), Surrey, Greater London, England
