FatPhil (3444), Espoo, Finland Sep 27, 2009 375ml bottle (Drink, Tallinn)
Pale, shaving foam head. Utterly bizarre taste - almost buttery in some ways. Some simple malts and drying chemical bitterness. Tongue-scrapingly so. mkel07 (494), Brisbane, Australia Aug 11, 2009 375ml bottle. For so long this has been seen as the flagship of premium Australian beer - what a joke. Nothing enjoyable about this at all. Poured a clear gold colour with a thin veil of foam across the top and a bland aroma. alagnak (295), Littleton, Colorado, USA Jun 23, 2009 Bottle from minibar. Nose is actually offensive, very vomit-esque. Corn malty flavor, only redeeming quality is the relatively clean, bitter finish. I’m amazed that a beer can be horrid through all phases save the finish. alepig666 (78), Adelaide, Australia Jun 16, 2009 Mutton dressed as lamb, marketed as a premium beer but is just another Aussie macro pale lager. Aroma is weak and quite chemical. Taste is like Becks mixed with Melbourne Bitter, crappy hops taste with slight bitterness. Aftertaste is the same. Drinkable but nothing remotely special. Would likely rate higher if they dropped the premium beer bullshit. Davros (201), Australia Jun 11, 2009 Updated: Jun 13, 2009Standard pale lager appearance, although the head shows some persistence...
Aroma is pretty horrible. Dirty, grainy aussie malt, no hop aroma (guessing isohops is used).
Flavours are equally boring, if slightly more palateble. Sweet grainy malt and some weak plain bitterness.
Pretty high carbonation.
First beer that’s made me feel sick after half a glass. Vertical Bacon Strips (874), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jun 2, 2009 Plain old average straw colour, produced some white head, but I only had a sip in a glass to see the colour. Drank the rest out of the bottle - I had to...it was a cool bottle and begged to be drank out of. Turned out to be a decent slamming beer. Smelt not bad - probally - has to be local swill in Aust., too bad it was on the weak side - some malts and a slight chemical odor. Flavour was pretty weak too, but non-offensive. Bland malt and yeast with a bit of hops. Went down smooth and quick leaving a minor bitter aftertaste that was enjoyable. rmussman (905), California, USA May 30, 2009 Acctually one of the better brews to be had in Australia. Drinks very well. Goes down smooth. Has a nice color and malt to it. Worth a go. Gary (352), Buckinghamshire, England May 20, 2009 This is the same recipe as VB and thus the exact same beer . But the lame ass gold bottle gives fake props and emphasis.Corny ,syrupy and fulla h2o. Wack ass shit.
