| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Apr 8, 2004 An orange beer with a fine head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of straws. The flavor is very slight but sour malty with a dry end. Another boring lager. Alcoholist (570), Peoria, Illinois, USA

| 1.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 4/20 | Mar 1, 2004 Nutty urine, metal - typical CUB. A bit less cidery than VB, but at least VB doesn't try to pass itself off as a classy, "premium" beer. Spanner (60), Canberra, Australia

Very average yellow colour, mildly fluffy white head which might as well not have bothered to show up in the first place and a slightly sickening aftertaste.
As others have said this is merely a bad beer which is being sold at a Premium price.
It's also screaming for a higher ABV.
I'd have thought that an Aussie lager might have been nice during a heat-wave but, I was terribly mistaken.
Sigh!

The best of the night in this Australasian themed pub. Without setting the world on fire, this is OK. Very smooth, especially compared to Tooheys New, and with enough flavour to make it a worthwhile swig in a hot, sweaty pub. This is not crisp, or packed with taste, but just seems to have enough about it to be palatable. I drank this late on in a pub crawl though, so will resolve to try at home, and re-rate if necessary. The 'Crownie' is a richer cousin of Carlton and United's Victoria Bitter. There is more taste than a VB, but it's nothing memorable and only suitable for drinking at a very cold temperature. The bottom line on Crown Lager is that it's not a 'Premium Beer' in spite of its premium price.
