I’ve had at least one of these a week for the last 20 years - over 1000 total! (Does anyone remember when it was called Tooth Sheaf?) The ONLY beer I carry to the top of mountains when I go hiking. Coffee, chocolate, toast, and just a pinch of salt to set it apart. Like liquid bread, it sticks to your ribs. If you find yourself marooned on a South Pacific island, this is the beer you’ll want a case of to wash up on the shore!

In the big bottle. This one was in just about every bottle shop I visited in NSW. Pours black with a light brown head. Aroma is a strong and almost acrid roasted malt. I can discern chocolate as well. Thicker palate than all the pale lagers, but thin for stouts. Good flavors of roasted malts and an effective hop balance. Good stout. Glad I tried it so close to the source.

The last time I had this beer was 1985. I remeber it being chewy, and a big "Bollocks to ya!" type of attititude with the beer. I remember working at a grocery store and speaking to some Aussies back in 1982 abouth this beer, and they knew about it and enjoyed it! Of course now, it’s NOT the BEST Aussie beer, but it’s a good one if you want to take over the Crocodile Hunter’s duties!

Wow, I didn’t realise this Aussie stalward had infiltrated the US market so. The label reminds me of empties in the park left behind by itinerant bums, or so their marketing campaign would have you believe. Looks like Coke with a beige frothy head. Strong burnt aromas. Creamy palate and charcoal coffee shop mouth.

Bottle. Pours deep black with a nice mocha head and clinging lace. Aroma is a nice banana-chocolate with hints of smoke. Light smoke and campfire are the dominant flavors, but they never overpower. Spreads along the tongue almost perfectly. Great beer. Wasn’t expecting much- I was actually dreading it- but I loved it. Underrated beer. I’ll definitely buy more.

ok, my first Austrailian craft beer (Fosters does not count)! And it is a stout, yippee! Large head with a LOT of lace. Laciest beer I have had yet. Black. Black, black! Aroma is nice but hard to explain other than smokey caramel/toffee. And this is another beer that tastes just like it smells and an added licorice flavor comes through. Heavy roasted, smokey sweet toffee/caramel malt. Large body with a sweet/sour lingering smokey aftertaste. I guess smokey, sweet, sour licorice and a bit bitter is the best way to describe this beer. And unique, have tasted nothing yet like it. Too smokey and sour to drink a lot of. But for a 1 mug sipping beer, it is an interesting diversion from the norm.

Black colored body with a light brown colored head. The aroma was roasted peanuts with some coffee. There was also some dry hay. The taste was roasted coffee with some smoked almonds. There was also some sweet pancakes with a salty finish. There was also a hint of soap in the finish. A decent stout, but I would like a little less roast and a little more body. The body was thin.

Aroma of cocoa powdered truffles and alcohol; fairly thin and watery with a hint of roast and chocolate...much better aroma; clean, non-descript and almost like a lager if not for the slight astringency. Slightly metallic. Harmless.
