Poured a black color with a cascading large creamy brown head that was lasting and produced good lacing. Heavy sweet fruity aroma. Medium body with a creamy texture. Moderate bitter sweet fruity flavor with an average finish. Interesting stout. AlabastorJones (765), San Francisco, California, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Nov 2, 2005 A somewhat clearish but mostly deep brown black pour, topped with two fingers of glorious coffee and cream colored head. My first Foreign Stout, I’m somewhat anxious. Standard salty, dry and coffee roasted stout aroma, with a good waft of dry cocoa bean, roasted almonds and carob. Flavor is somewhat metallic, sharp and stinging, but contains slightly exotic spicy notes and a good dose of chocolate and coffee. Some bitter notes, with a harsh dark chocolate finish. No alcohol noted. Sea salt and coriander. Finish is sweet and salty, but has some oaky tones, but fades fast and leaves a slightly unpleasent sour smack. Overall, quite drinkable. homebrew (15), Anchorage, Alaska, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 1/5 | 13/20 | Oct 19, 2005 Thin for a stout. Somewhat metallic mouthfeel with a little sour wine pucker. Wooden tannins with a streak of molasses. Pleasantly bitter but the alcohol fights with the smoke for dominance. The smoke would be preferable but neither outweigh the shakey palate. Its likely an acquired taste. noelcb (271), Toledo, Ohio, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 27, 2005 Updated: Sep 28, 2005Nearly black with nary a head at first. As it warmed, it began to develop a big bubbly frothy head, tan, with pretty good sticky lace. Smells of malt, grain, bread, caramel, molasses, herbs, citrus, and yeast. Nice malt flavor with hints of licorice, chocolate, coffee, cream, cola, but well-balanced with a nice hoppy bitterness, and a lingering bitter finish. Mouthfeel is good but a tad thinner than most stouts. cstuartj (324), Washington, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Sep 15, 2005 Very, very nice dark down under brew. Not as bright and hopy as the west coast stouts Im used to, and not as much roast as I’d like, but a very dark somber drink none the less. JPDIPSO (4921), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 12, 2005 Nearly black body with a smaller fluffy tan head. Decent lace as you go. Aromas of hearty bread, mixed with mild coffee, and coal. Undertones of alcohol and light fruit. This seems thinner than the version I had a number of years ago. The old version seemed to be chewy and thick with more residual sweetness. Now it seems more like a sweet stout than a foreign stout. bridge (659), Sydney, Australia
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 31, 2005 Poured absolute jet black with a small bubbly tan head that left a little lacing. Aroma of strong bitter coffee, molasses and soy sauce(!) waft out. On tasting the alcohol is very prevalent, but getting past this there is some good bitterness and roasted malts to be found. A nice aftertaste full of good ol’ vegemite too ;-) Not bad, considering it comes from CUB!!
