Pours with a small brown head and the color is dark, dark, ruby. This shows good lace and the nose is of coffee and alcohol overtones. Let’s begin... Almost a dry stout taste with medium body and a strong espresso flavor. This finishes bitter on the back of the tongue with an alcohol burn. Not a full flavored beer that really impresses, but rather dry and bitter, which is interesting. A little incomplete, but still a decent beer. Thanks Fil! highlandlad (1275), Sydney, Australia
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Mar 28, 2005 Updated: Sep 8, 2005Surprisingly good foreign stout from one of Australia’s macro brewers. Had to check the bottle to confirm that this is from the brewer behind some of the country’s worst swill. Poured tar black, with a paltry 0.5cm tan head that quickly vamoosed. Appearance redeemed by some lacing. Promising aroma: bitter chocolate, espresso and strong vanilla characters. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. Milk chocolate notes, roast barley and a restrained bitterness. Generally sweet. Leaves a phlegmy bitterness at the back of the throat like you’ve just horsed several strong lattes. It’s not a classic but it’s much, much better than you might expect. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 16, 2005 Very dark. Moderate head and some lacing. Restrained roast malt aroma. Very strong aggressive rough taste with bitter chocolate and roast bitter finish. Reminds me of some East German beers I drank in the early 80s. ChrisPants (317), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

I poured two ounces into my mouth, and the remaining thirty down the drain. Sickly sweet aluminum, battery acid, pesticides, sour mildew, and a diabolical mega-funk permeate this liquid. The aroma was unreal, and the taste was even worse. THIS IS THE FIRST BEER, DURING 8 YEARS OF BEER ENJOYMENT, THAT I HAVE EVER POURED OUT. thehoff (569), Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA

The taste isn’t the best. Very metallic right through to the finish, can feel that on the roof of your mouth. Has a weird tanginess in the beginning, almost a sourness, and only in the finish has a nice stout bitterness. OK. Cannot compare to other stouts.
