Standard flavours you find in a stout but easily drinkable, late milk chocolate in the finish. I enjoyed this one better than the Southwark Old! Ubiquibeer (140), Cleveland, USA

Like the previous poster said, the first couple swallows were interesting, to say the least, but as it warms a bit and sits the flavors start to come together, if only just a little. igel (196), New Mexico, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 3, 2004 Not the most complex brew I have ever had the opportunity to sample, but a pleasant surprise.
The appearance is a very dark brown with red highlights. The head is tan, not very dignified and diminished quickly. The lace is nice and sticky. The aroma is pungent: coffee, roasted stuff, malt and alcohol. The taste is somewhat unrefined: malty, roasted, and tin like biting finish. The mouthfeel was surprisingly smooth, effervescent, rich and a metallic presence.
Although , the first couple of tastes were pretty rough, this stout mellowed and grew on me (and kept its character). BBB63 (4274), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 11, 2004 Bottle: Opaque with creamy but fading head and good lace. The aroma has notes of burnt and mocha malts, espresso, liquorice, grassy hops, and lactic undertone. The taste starts twangy and fruity with a young port character. Lots of grassy and smoky notes. The finish is lightly bitter with a coffee partner. The feel is a bit thin and watery, lively and dry. Quaffable, a dry stout. flutetokill (515), Fresno, California, USA

Nice rich roasted coffee, malt, wine and smoke aroma and flavors. Medium feel with a lightly bitter hops finish. loweredsixth (943), Fresno, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 10, 2004 Deep black, opaque, with a medium beige head. The aroma was not as strong as I like...some smoky, roasty, fruity(grape) tones. The flavor was more solid...huge smokey character, grape, prune, coffee, some earthiness. Medium-thin feel...somewhat soft...semi-wet finish. Thanks BBB63. Aarleks (404), Sydney, Australia
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 10, 2004 Bottle: Poured black with not a hint of light being let through. Medium head of light-tan bubbles that lasted the whole glass. Aroma of beef-stock cubes and vegemite with some raosty notes. Flavour was mostly roasted and background caramel with very noticable alcohol and some burnt toasy notes. Mouthfeel was initially sharp but quickly moving to a syrupy creaminess. Lasting finishing bitterness and a little astringency. Overall a bit dissapointing and lacking any really unique characters. dreamboat (186), Brisbane, Australia
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 13/20 | Aug 2, 2004 Typical black stout in appearance, with light carbonation, but refused to hold a head for any length of time at all. What head there was was a pleasent brown colour. rich coffee, malty chocolate aroma, with a notable balck malt burnt nose, which was perhaps a bit harsh. nice body, with a black malt bitterness. Some sweetness too, flavour falling between a dry stout and an oatmeal.
