| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 7, 2007 The 22 ounce bottle poured a nearly opaque black colored beverage with an average sized light brown creamy head that was somewhat lasting and left good lacing on the glass. The aroma was well balanced for the style having a bit more malt presence than hops. The malt was represented by slightly burnt molasses and chocolate notes with the hops presenting in the form of light herbal notes. The body was medium with average carbonation and a thick texture. The flavor started out lightly sweet and gradually took on more bitterness throughout the longer-than-average finish. joe1510 (501), Illinois, USA

Sheaf Stout pours black with just a hint of garnet highlights shining through the base of my glass. A two finger beige head formed on the pour that slowly fell to a finger becoming nice and creamy. Leaves patchy lacing. Good looking stout.
Aroma starts off with a lightly roasted maltiness along with a milk chocolate lactic quality. These fade mid-palate and head more in the direction of bakers chocolate toward the back. A little more alcohol is noticeable than I expected or prefer.
Flavor is on the same page as the aroma. Roasted malts get things started along with bakers chocolate and a mild lactic quality. Again, as in the aroma, the alcohol detracts from the flavor. A little too big on the fumes for such a standard abv.
Medium bodied with a smooth creaminess. Maybe just a touch lighter than I would prefer but it’s so close I’m just being picky now.
Pretty easy drinking stout. I’m going to finish off this 27oz. bottle without a problem.
A pleasant surprise. Saw this one at the liquor store and because of their lack of selection decided to pick it up. Never heard of or seen this brew before then. I could see myself picking this up again in the same sort of situation.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 22, 2007 27 oz. bottle. Pours black with a very dark head (the head is as dark as the milk in the remnants of a bowl of Count Chocula). The smell was similar to Kahlua--very sweet molasses base with some coffee notes. The aroma is intense. The taste was a rich burnt chocolate. The finish was a little like a red wine--it was bitter and the flavors really stood out. This is well worth the $2.99 for the 27 oz. bottle. I buy one of these several times a year. Well done. cathcacr (588), Portland, Oregon, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 14, 2007 Pours pitch black with a dark tan head. Nose is a bit thin with a slight roasted tone to it. Flavor is decent. Slightly thin as well with more hitting you on the back end. Prolonged coffee tones on the tail end that stick around long after the liquid is gone. Feel is decent. Slightly thick with low carbonation to it. Very drinkable. Much more a sessionable beer than a craft brew gem. Overall, decent, but not something I would search out in the future. And definitely not my favorite of the style. Bradrcr (779), Renton, Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 14, 2007 Aroma is heavily roasted malt forward; very coffeelike with chocolate, black patent and light fruit. Appearance is deep brown with a persistent tan head. Flavor is fruity roast malt forward with a sweet roast finish. There is no hop character and moderate bittering. Mouthfeel is medium/high bodied with a strong roast texture and light warmth. Overall, good complexity and a fun beer to drink.
