Narnad (681), Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA Oct 13, 2008 Served from tap in a big pint glass. Beautiful ruby red color with solid creamy, creamy, frothy off white head. The froth reminded me of a good root beer float head. Aroma was heavy of earthy hops with a very sweet caramel aroma and cinnamon spiciness. Flavor is purely awesome. Hops flavor hits first with a very grassy and citrus flavor. Malt flavor is fantastic in this beer adding a slight nutty taste to the beer. Alcohol is hidden very well and the beer is so smooth. At times, its smoothness reminded me of an ice cream floats smooth sweetness. Only complaint with the beer is since the flavors are so vibrant, the beer feels a bit on the watery side in your mouth at times. Overall this is an awesome beer and I highly recommend it! boto (1319), Granby, Connecticut, USA Oct 6, 2008 Draught @ brewpub: Served in a goblet. this one pours a cloudy brown, with a very small off-white head. it still managed to leave quite a bit of lacing. The aroma is nice. Nothing really jumping out front, but there are notes of caramel, malt, spices, and grapefruit and earthy hops. The taste is also quite good. It is smooth and well balanced. It is slightly sweet with a bitter finish. Malts, earthiness, spiciness and fruits way in the back. guyinchicago (516), marengo, Illinois, USA Apr 20, 2008 Updated: Feb 15, 2009on tap at brew pub 4/ 19/ 08 not as big and bold as other stongs i’v had. amber to orangish brown in color with off white head.earthy hops, carameled malts and toffee flavors and a hint of citrus in the finish, nice brew CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Nov 17, 2007 On tap at the brewpub on 6/20/07: Pours a transparent dark orange amber with a frothy, well-lacing off-white head. Aroma has a lot of grapefruity hops and sweet dark caramel malt. Body starts with a decent amount of sweet malt and lots of fresh citrusy hops before a toasty, bittersweet finish that hides the abv well. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Sep 1, 2007 Date: 06/20/2007

DrnkMcDermott (1831), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA May 10, 2007 Sampler. Finally, we wrap the evening with the former Poor Richard’s. Solid brown body packed with malts instead of sugar (blame that previous quad for this observation). With a little more alcohol, it could be a "young Bigfoot." Strong malt and alcohol. The hops manage some bacup, but give up after a while, leaving just a little lingering bitter aftertaste. Brewosk (137), Illinois, USA Mar 18, 2007 Good caramel malt. One of the better beers that Carlyle serves. Sweet aroma infused with some alcohol. Very noteworthy flavor. One of eleven on tap. Nice in a goblet. SubstanceT (1090), Saint Louis, Missouri, USA Feb 7, 2007 #1009, On tap at the brewpub. Somewhat hazy amber with a thick foamy white head that is quickly discipating but leaves a dirty thick lace. Nose is sweet, perfume. Taste is very interesting. Initially strong with lots of flowers and nectar. Then to this big punch of hops that is again perfume but in the hoppy way. THEN AGAIN to a big strong chewy malty sour mashy with a realk good alcohol presence. This thing is so floral it really is a palate killer. Interesting and so different that it is almost undrinkable.
