The aroma contains old caramel, a hint of toffee, and an earthy bitterness. The flavor carries on with the caramel and earthiness along with some vanilla and a peppery spiciness. Interesting.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 20, 2006 Cloudy brown body. Sweet caramelly aroma with a cotton candy element. Strong caramel flavor under a light roast malt and spruce hop. A bold malty beer, good stuff. 1FastSTi (2568), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 19, 2006 Was listed as Poor Richard’s Ale. The beer pours to a hazy reddish brown body with a very thin white head. The flavor is very complex. I think there are amarillo hops in this. I also get bananas, caramel malts, interesting spiciness, intersting bill of hops. The aroma has vanilla, bananas, deep caramel malts. The palate is medium bodied, silken, and velvety. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 22, 2006 On tap at the brewpub. Pours a hazy, almost opaque dark auburn. Thin white head quickly scambles for the sides of the glass. Lightly tart, pleasantly spicy hop aroma. Big spicy and fruity flavors (apples, pears, raisins) jump out first, and malt sweetness joins in shortly. Medium hop bitterness rounds off the package. Thick, almost sticky palate. Rather fine stuf; easy to see why it earned a spot in Bob Klein’s 365 Bottles of Beer Page-A-Day calendar (2006). muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 31, 2005 Sample at the brewpub. Opaque, muddy brown with lasting smidgeon of head and thick granular lacing...awesome sweet, complex fruity nose, the multitudes of oranges, apricots, cherries and crabapples are with me yet, all resting on a soft bed of hay and dosed liberally with caramel...the body, spicy-sweet, pungent and hoppy, very full with just the right amount of warming alcohol, prunes, all in a lightly yeasty, thick mouthfeel, juicy and bitter and then nicely dry and bitter, on and on and on. amberale1 (16), Janesville, Wisconsin, USA

Was recommended to try this one as this beer is the favorite among the mugclubbers. Served in a bowl glass which was very cool. A different flavor and taste, but yet satisfying. Fruity aroma.Reddish brown color.
