Opaque, muddy brown with lasting smidgeon of head and thick granular lacing...awesome sweet, complex fruity nose, the multitudes of oranges, apricots, cherries and crabapples are with me yet, all resting on a soft bed of hay and dosed liberally with caramel...the body, spicy-sweet, pungent and hoppy, very full with just the right amount of warming alcohol, prunes, all in a lightly yeasty, thick mouthfeel, juicy and bitter and then nicely dry and bitter, on and on and on. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Apr 25, 2004 Very fruity aroma, some diacetyl, not much alcohol, great firm, chewy mouthfeel, and loaded with malt flavor. Maybe a little more hop flavor and aroma would increase the enjoyment of this already fine beer. Brewosk (137), Illinois, USA

Sweet aroma infused with some alcohol. Very noteworthy flavor. One of eleven on tap. Nice in a goblet. guyinchicago (533), marengo, Illinois, USA

ReRate-dec 28,2004 This batch is very smiilar to the one i had a year ago. Lots of berries and maple notes this time around. a little more hop presence though. tasty. boosted the ratings up a few notches. DrnkMcDermott (1855), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA

Solid brown body packed with malts instead of sugar (blame that previous quad for this observation). With a little more alcohol, it could be a "young Bigfoot." Strong malt and alcohol. The hops manage some bacup, but give up after a while, leaving just a little lingering bitter aftertaste. boto (1339), Granby, Connecticut, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 6, 2008 Draught @ brewpub: Served in a goblet. this one pours a cloudy brown, with a very small off-white head. it still managed to leave quite a bit of lacing. The aroma is nice. Nothing really jumping out front, but there are notes of caramel, malt, spices, and grapefruit and earthy hops. The taste is also quite good. It is smooth and well balanced. It is slightly sweet with a bitter finish. Malts, earthiness, spiciness and fruits way in the back. JMerritt (1320), Macomb, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Dec 27, 2003 Dark red-brown, no head. Cherry skin, plum, blood orange, and sweet malt aroma. Rather thick, syrupy mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden. Caramel malt and rye finish. Quite delicious.
