bu11zeye (5430), Frisco, Texas, USA Aug 25, 2009 (Draught, labeled as Humulus Lupulus) Pours a cloudy amber body with a small bubbly off-white head. Aroma of earth, florals, grass, pine, and citrus. Flavor of hops (citrus, pine, earth, grass), biscuit, and caramel malt with a bitter finish. beastiefan2k (1590), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas, USA Jun 13, 2009 Tap @ the brewpub. Color is a thick, murky, dirty, golden. The head is thick and soapy and leaves a similar thick and soapy lacing. Cannot see through the beer but it looks dirty rather than pretty. Aroma, all hops: bitter and tropical fruits with an airy bitterness to it. In the flavor the bitterness is subdued by a thick maltiness. Fortunately, the maltiness isn’t a caramel sweetness (which I dislike) but just a thick unsweetened maltiness. Muffled fruit juice and tropical fruit hops emerge in the flavor as well. it is ok. Narnad (682), Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA Mar 14, 2009 Humulus Lupulus came an amber/red color with some cloudiness to it with a one inch thick off-white head that left great lacing. Aroma is a strong mixture of citrus, pine and floral hops with a light caramel malt aroma in the tail of the inhalation. Hops hits you right in the mouth, first citrus then moving into a grassy/piney middle and ends with a somewhat sweet malt ending. The feeling of the beer is a bit watery at the end like its missing something in the body. Overall a great beer if your in the mood for something bitter and melds well with its malt flavor. slitcher (88), Freeport, Illinois, USA Feb 25, 2009 Pours a cloudy brick red with a thin lacy head. Caramel malt and citrus hops on the nose. Wonderful balance of roasty malt and piney citrus hop bitterness.Smooth malt finsh with a strong hop backbone. An extremely well-balanced and drinkable IPA. guyinchicago (516), marengo, Illinois, USA Jul 29, 2008 Updated: Jul 7, 2009on tap last saturday night at brew pub goes under the name of humulus lupulus poured hazy amber with off whiite head aromas of hops and citrus taste is of hops, citrus and a sweet caramel fiinished dry and bitter. a great brew CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Nov 17, 2007 On tap at the brewpub on 6/20/07 as Humulus Lupulus: Pours a transparent, slightly hazy bronze with a thin, airy, wispy-lacing white head. Silphium (2114), Haslett, Michigan, USA May 24, 2007 On tap at the brewery as Humulus Lupulus. Hazy orange body, medium off-white head. Aroma reminded me of Bells Two-Hearted Ale, with plenty of leafy, strong pine and grapefruit hops notes. Soapy, citrusy, piney hops body backed by biscuity, bready malts. Fresh, potent, and crisp with good balance. A winner.
