Outstanding super hoppy aroma. Good clove flavor as well. Great for fans of bitterness, in a pint glass. gws57 (1138), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 31, 2005 Sample, then full glass, at the brewpub. Hazy near-opaque amber with lots of fanciful lacing and a bit of creamy head that lasts and lasts....gorgeous fresh, ripe apricots, bitter orange and sharp floral character in the nose, touch of farmy pungency...in the body, bittersweet fruit, musty dank PNW hops, sweet orange coming out late and contrasting beautifully with the strongly woody finish...bit of a challenge, and the body could be a tad fuller (though the bittersweet texture makes up for that somewhat) but this is truly excellent. slitcher (98), Freeport, Illinois, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 25, 2009 Pours a cloudy brick red with a thin lacy head. Caramel malt and citrus hops on the nose. Wonderful balance of roasty malt and piney citrus hop bitterness.Smooth malt finsh with a strong hop backbone. An extremely well-balanced and drinkable IPA. JMerritt (1320), Macomb, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Nov 27, 2004 Very cloudy yellow-brown in color. Head is huge, fluffy, off-white in color, and fully lasting. Decent Cascade hop aroma, though it is slightly hidden beneath the beautiful head. Hop bitterness is striking, very fresh and green - the dry hopping did wonders. Lightly medicinal finish and slightly buttery. Very good. 1FastSTi (2569), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 19, 2006 Listed as Humulus Lupulus. The beer pours to a very hazy reddish gold body with a dense tan head and nice lacing. The flavor is a nicely hoppy citrus and PNW hops. The aroma is nicely hoppy. The flavor is balanced by a nice caramel malt. Nice balanced flavor. The palate is medium-light bodied and has a light resin hop. I could drink lots of this. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 22, 2006 On tap under the monicker of "Humulus Lupulus". Carlyle’s IPA hit all cynliders with me, big (grape)fruity aroma, copper color, large creamy head and upfront bitterness. Yes, there is a maltiness to back it up, but thanks to the freshness of the IPA it was all hops. DrnkMcDermott (1854), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 10, 2007 Sampler. After sliding through the "regular" beer samples, we come to the start of the "extreme" beers that couldn’t fit on the sampler paddle! Just a little too light to be taking on the Dreadnaught, but it’s surely sniffing its butt behind. Heavy fresh hop layer from dry hopping. Brutally bitter to keep those aroma hops out of the way.
