Commercial Description:
Red ales were once common in Ireland but disappeared from there many years ago. American microbreweries have reinvented and reshaped the style, but the “soul of the Irish Red Ale is still, and always will be, Irish!” The newest Cottonwood brew has a deep ruby color reflecting the dominant caramel malt taste profile. “Irish” is brewed an extra two hours in the kettle which brings out the roasted malt taste, an almost a toasted overtone. A taste of this “Fine Irish Red Ale” and you will see why those leprechauns are always smiling.

Redish. Smell of sweet hops. Nice body to this beer. Not bad for a red ale considering I typically don’t drink em. A little sweet.

Reddish amber with a thin white head. Malty, bready aroma. Flavor is lightly sweet with caramel and a dash of toasted malt. Very plain take on an Irish Red. Not very impressive.

Draft at Brixx. Nice dark red with a small white head. Doughy aroma, quite mild. Mild tastes of sweet and sour malts with some bread. Finishes a little sour and actually a little smoky/woody...not the strongest or the best red, though.

Served on-tap at the Woods on South restaurant in Charlotte, NC. Appearance: Clear, copper body with a small white head. Smell: Mild grainy aroma with a whisp of fruit. Taste: Toasted grain flavor with some hints of caramelized kettle sugars. Hint of fruit. Very, very light bitterness. Clean, crisp finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation. Watery. Drinkability: A bit bland. Chuggable, if only to get it oughta the way for something else.

Pours copper with a small off-white head. Toasty caramel and bread nose. A touch sweet up front, balanced finish. Not as floral of a hop finishas some irish ales, but still easy drinking.

Draft sample at Knoxville Brew Jam. Poured a clear copper color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted sour citrus hoppy aroma. Light to medium body. Medium bitter flavor with a medium bitter finish of moderate duration.
