Commercial Description:
This brilliant red ale, brewed with caramel and pale malts, is a best seller at the Carolina Brewery. Using traditional brewing methods, the ale yeast provides a touch of fruit and works in tandem with the malt to make for a very drinkable ale. Kent Golding hops lend just enough bitterness and aroma to round out the flavor.

Sampled on draft at the brewpub. Pours a clear amber color with a thin head. Average head retention and lacing. Aroma of sweet caramel malts and nuts. Taste is nutty with caramel, grain and bitter leafy hops. Medium bodied.

Tap at the brewery 2/2/08: Pours a transparent bright copper with a spotty-lacing froth of off-white head. Aroma of semi-sweet toasty caramel malt with some mild piny hop notes. Starts fairly full and semi-sweet with a touch of sticky caramel toffee malt flavor and a decent bitter balance toward a drier earthy bittersweet finish.

Red orange pour with decent white head. Grapefruit and orange in the aroma with hint of caramel in the flavor. Bitter finish but drinkable.

Clear light orange pour with some head. Weak ass nose with no real aroma. Horribly vegetal flavor. Dreadful. I really hope I had a bad batch, cause this was pretty damn unenjoyable.

On tap. Pours a clear copper with a thin off-white head. Aromas of grapefruit, almost like potpourri orange peel, and slight caramel. Taste is very well balanced with the English hops and caramel malt. Nice bitter finish. A very good session beer.

Copper pour with tight white head and lace. Very light caramelly aroma. Light semi sweet malt flavor with almost no bitter. Night light medium bodied beer with creamy carbonation. Refreshing with a hint of bitter. A tad and just a tad more hop presence would have really set this beer off for me.

This one won a Gold medal at the 2006 GABF and it shows. Far more flavor is packed into this beer than your average Amber ale. Pours a light coppery amber with a medium frothy white head. Lacing is decent, but not overly impressive. Has an amply bitter finish that rises in the tail end of the swallow with an aggressive attack. Good solid caramel malt underpinning. Hops are earthy. A little bit of chocolate malt provides complexity.

Draft. Clear, copper color. Minimal aroma of caramel malts and a touch of bitterness. Similar flavor, malt forward with a bit of a hoppy finish. Has an interesting yeast flavor that’s hard to describe. The clean finish and mouthfeel make this a decent session beer and one of the better ones from a brewery that’s disappointed me from time to time.
