Commercial Description:
This brilliant red ale, brewed with caramel and pale malts, is a best seller at the Carolina Brewery. Using traditional brewing methods, the ale yeast provides a touch of fruit and works in tandem with the malt to make for a very drinkable ale. Kent Golding hops lend just enough bitterness and aroma to round out the flavor.

Tap at the brewery 2/2/08: Pours a transparent bright copper with a spotty-lacing froth of off-white head. Aroma of semi-sweet toasty caramel malt with some mild piny hop notes. Starts fairly full and semi-sweet with a touch of sticky caramel toffee malt flavor and a decent bitter balance toward a drier earthy bittersweet finish.

This poured a pale copper with a modest white head. Both the nose and taste consisted of a generic sweet malt with a touch of apples and sweet cherries. Thin bodied, it finishes on a faint, herbal bitter note. Passable... meaning, pass on it.

Had this on tap at the brewpub. Clear copper color with thin head. Caramel and hop aroma with same caramel flavor. Some distant hop bitterness and flavor. A decent beer.

Appearance: Clear, lightly effervescent, copper body with a small, fizzy white head. Smell: Meek aroma of sweaty grains with a very vague fruitiness. Taste: Sweetish pale malt flavor with a fair amount of graininess. More of that vague fruitiness. Light hop spiciness. Finishes relatively crisp and clean. Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Moderate, soda water-like carbonation. Drinkability: Not that it was too great to begin with, but for heaven’s sake, ease up on the carbonation.

Sampled on draft at the brewpub. Pours a clear amber color with a thin head. Average head retention and lacing. Aroma of sweet caramel malts and nuts. Taste is nutty with caramel, grain and bitter leafy hops. Medium bodied.

Copper pour with tight white head and lace. Very light caramelly aroma. Light semi sweet malt flavor with almost no bitter. Night light medium bodied beer with creamy carbonation. Refreshing with a hint of bitter. A tad and just a tad more hop presence would have really set this beer off for me.
