Commercial Description:
Originally, this intensely hopped ale was brewed in the 18th century to survive the long sea journey from the cooler breweries in England, around the Cape of Africa to India where the temperatures were too warm to brew. This beer has a unique floral aroma from the generous addition of Cascade hops to the fermenter in a procedure known as dry hopping.

Growler courtesy of kp sampled on 1/4/07: Pours a clear copper amber with a thin ring of white head. Aroma of earthy grainy malts and a touch of grapefruity hops. Body starts with a mildly sweet grainy crystal maltiness with some earthy bittering hoppy balance. A decent IPA.

Growler courtesy of emacgee. Pours copper with a thin off white head. Smells of citrus, pine resin, caramel, roses. Tastes of sweet malt and pine with some underlying bitterness. Mouthfeel is a little watery but has some nice hoppiness. Chewy caramel finish with some lasting bitterness.

Very golden bodied for the style, this ale has a modest white head that does some thick lacing. The aroma could be stronger, but it is a nice blending of sweet caramel and PNW hops. The flavor has a respectable caramel backbone, a touch of toffee supporting it. Good grapefruit and pine bitterness, but as a hophead I think it should have been stronger, too. Decent, but it strikes me more as a slightly pumped up APA.

Copper colored, with medium white head. Aroma of floral, grassy hops, honey malt, and black peppery spicyness. Tastes hoppy, with finishing citrus, spice, and fruit. Complex and smooth.

Growler. Poured a moslty clear copper color with a thin off-white head. The hoppy aroma had notes of light pine, citrus and some earthy character. Malt was underneath but overall the aroma seemed mutted and dull. The flavor had a nice mix of malt and some citrus. The finish was long, dry and moderately bitter.
