| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 6, 2008 From a growler at Foothills gathering. Slightly hazed bronw pour. Very porter aroma of slightly sourish toasted malt. Very nice mlatiness and hints of coffee with very appropriate bitter. Just a bit thin but I wonder if it is because of the growler. Nice porter a tad thin but very nice. TURDFERGUSON (1605), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 5, 2008 From a growler purchased at the brewery. Pours a blackish with a small tan head. Nose is nutty, with some roasted malt and coffee notes. Flavor is nicely roasty with a mild bitterness in the finish. Nothing spectacular here but a fine everyday beer. Pretty straightforward, but no off flavors and alcohol hidden well. gotohelunc (476), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jan 11, 2008 Draft at the brewery. Black with a small khaki head. A little bit nutty nose. There’s a lot of burnt, roasty, toasted flavor here. My wife defined it as, "This tastes like an ash tray." I’d say that’s mean in a flavor description, overly nice in a strength description, and about right for the flavor. Very roasted, somewhat dirty and sour, and very watered down. Such is this brewery. At least it’s quite drinkable. CaptainCougar (5519), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 16, 2007 Pours a mostly opaque black with dark brown edges and a wispy dark tan head. Aroma of sweet dark caramel and chocolate with some oatmeal and roasted malt. Body starts with a rich dark malty sweetness and some roasty earthy bitterness. Finishes with nice dark chocolate and roasty coffee notes. A nice porter. Magjayran (1379), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 12, 2007 Very dark brown color. Almost black. Some coffee in the aroma. This one is rather dry with a lot of roasted malt. Fairly creamy mouthfeel. This one is a little thin for my taste. JCB (1781), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 12, 2007 I’ve had this twice on tap now - once at the brewery, and once at Tyler’s, Durham - and neither time has left me particularly impressed with this beer. It’s got a fairly interesting roasted flavor to start but is overall a bit one dimensional. Additionally, for this style the body is far too watery to sustain the character. Average.
