Commercial Description:
This hearty dark ale with pleasing hints of molasses and chocolate is robust and full bodied. English oats complement the brew by creating a nice silky texture and a creamy, rocky head. This style originally was a blend of three different beers that was called "Entire Butt" – we're not kidding! Porter became a style of its own during the early 1700's when it was the favorite drink of the porters in the produce markets of London, England.

Pours a mostly opaque black with dark brown edges and a wispy dark tan head. Aroma of sweet dark caramel and chocolate with some oatmeal and roasted malt. Body starts with a rich dark malty sweetness and some roasty earthy bitterness. Finishes with nice dark chocolate and roasty coffee notes. A nice porter.

Growler from ucusty. Poured dark brown with a thin beaige head. Aroma of roast, chocolate, and a touch of sweetness. Dry roasty chocolate combined with some sweet caramel malts and a touch of oat. Nice smooth mouth feel. Well done.

Sampled on draft at the brewpub. Pours a dark brown color. Medium head with decent head retention and lacing. Aroma is roasted malts and green apple. Taste is bitter roasted malts with tobacco, leather, light but bitter hops and the same green apple from the aroma. Seems maybe a bit off. Creamy mouthfeel, medium bodied.

From a growler at Foothills gathering. Slightly hazed bronw pour. Very porter aroma of slightly sourish toasted malt. Very nice mlatiness and hints of coffee with very appropriate bitter. Just a bit thin but I wonder if it is because of the growler. Nice porter a tad thin but very nice.

At the brewpub. Poured a dark brown with a tan head. Smelled and tasted better than the stout. Rich malty aroma, chocolate, coffee, sweet, a little grainy. The flavor was malty, chocolate, roasted coffee, grainy, lightly bitter. NIce mouthfeel. Pretty good porter.

I’ve had this twice on tap now - once at the brewery, and once at Tyler’s, Durham - and neither time has left me particularly impressed with this beer. It’s got a fairly interesting roasted flavor to start but is overall a bit one dimensional. Additionally, for this style the body is far too watery to sustain the character. Average.
