Commercial Description:
For those desiring a lighter beer that still has hand-crafted integrity, this beer is a German style Kolsch ale made famous in its namesake city of Cologne (Koln in German). This thirst-quenching summer brew is spritzy, not too malty, with all the pleasing aroma of German Hallertauer hops. While fermented warm like all ales, Kolsch beer undergoes a cold aging period like a lager which results in a brew that is complex yet easy to drink.

On draught at the brewery 5/5/07. Pours is golen orange with thin white head. Earthy, soil, a little tartness in the aroma. Flavor is nice with lemon, orange, and grainy flavors. I expected this to be a pale lager and was pleasently surprised.

Delicious, refreshing, a little filling though. surprised at the low rankings. on tap at village draft house in Raleigh, NC. honey, butterscotch, sweet grainy malts. definetely worth it if you like seasonals, golden ales, or want something summery as you sit outside.

On tap at Spankys Bar and Grille in Chapel Hill. It had a good hop/malt balance, but otherwise fairly uninteresting. Easy to drink.

From notes 5/5/03: Poured a bright golden yellow color. Clear. A bubbly white head reduced to a milky film. Laces well. Slight smell if any. I could barely detect a scent. Grassy. The taste followed along with a grassy taste. Nice hop bite at the end, with a slightly grainy aftertaste. A subtle malt sweetness tempered by a healthy hop bite. Nothing heavy on the mouthfeel. An easy drinking pale pale ale without any nasty macro-ness involved.

Sampled on draft at the brewpub. Pours a clear pale yellow color with a thin head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma is grassy hops with slight grainy notes. Taste is grassy hops with a toasted malt finish and faint nutty notes. Thin-medium bodied. Strongly carbonated.

Draft at the brewpub: Poured light yellow with a small white head. Fruit aroma- mild bubblegum and grape. Full flavored. Semi hoppy and yeasty. Soft carbonation. Nice and quite refreshing. I like it.

Very light and airy. Not a bad beer, especially on a hot night. If you’re lookiing for a really big beer, though, you’re going to be disappointed.
