| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 6, 2004 (draft) Clear amber with off-white head. Aroma is mild sweet, some grassy. Taste is sweet, carame, grassy, finishing with alcohol that is slightly astringent. Medium full body. Is this beer actually under 6% ABV? CaptainCougar (5530), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 1, 2008 Bottle courtesy of kp: Pours a transparent copper amber with a spotty-lacing off-white head. Aroma of sweet, lightly toasted caramely malt and some noble hops. Body starts with a nice mild sweetness and earthy bittering hop balance before a crisp, smooth fairly full finish. An authentic and drinkable heller bock. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 25, 2005 Draft at Mcgregors in Cary. Copper pour with aroma of fruit, malt, hopcit, slight acetic acid. Tastes rich, complex, fruity and bocky. Great complexity, yet a tad thin at the finish. Still, this one is fabulous. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | May 4, 2007 From a bottle dated 3/21 purchased at the brewery; also sampled on draft at the brewry and loved it. Bright but earthy orange in color, the head succombs quickly. Rich malty aroma. For a relatively light-colored beer, this has a robust and full-bodied character without being overbearing in any way ... lightly malty, with just a twinge of sugary-alcoholic aftertaste. Another underrated beauty. (#2837, 5/4/2007) TheBeerGod (3171), Newport News, Virginia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 13, 2007 Bottle courtesy of OldGrowth. Called the Spring Bock Lager. Bottled on 03/21/07 and weighing in at 6.5% ABV according to the label. Pours amber with a small white head. Nose is malty with soft sweet notes, and spicy hops. Some dried fruitiness and maybe some honeyish wafts too. Taste is sweeter with more malt, soft honey, fruit, light bread, and soft spicy hops. Body is medium but chewy with light carbonation. Finishes with more sweetness but a touch more bitterness and bigger fruit. The honey is reduced here. Nice! GeneralGao (3071), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 27, 2006 Draught at 42nd St Oyster Bar in Raleigh, NC. Clear golden-orange color with thin white head which did a quick disappearing act. Not much aroma other than subtle grass clippings and occasional whiffs of pear and sprucy hops. I even detected what smelled like Elmer’s glue. Took me right back to 2nd grade. Flavor is a bit flat, but dominated by caramel malt. Finish is crisp and somewhat bitter. Overall I thought it was pretty average relative to their other offerings. ChainGangGuy (2613), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 24, 2008 Appearance: Pours a clear, deep orange body with a small, fizzy white head.
Smell: Sweet-smelling aroma of honeyed bread, lightly toasted grains, a pinch of spice, and a faint whiff of fruits.
Taste: Bready, honeylike maltiness with a medium, candyish sweetness. Touch of toasted grains. Vague fruitiness. Light hop spiciness with a mild bitterness. Still finishes sweet with a bit of that warming alcohol sneaking in.
Mouthfeel: Just barely medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: A decent, quaff-minded maibock.
