arventresca (334), Greenville, North Carolina, USA Feb 15, 2009 Tap at Edward Mills Grill. Nice black color with off white head. Smell of roasted malts, chocolate and coffee. Very nice finish and easy drinking. That Black Lab in the picture up their is awesome. ucusty (1871), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Aug 29, 2008 Dark brown pour with a frothy tan head. Roast, coffee, and malts on the nose. Caramel, nuts, and coffee. eaglefan538 (2355), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Apr 15, 2008 Bottle from OldGrowth. Pour was full brown color, clear body, nice head and lacing. The aroma was roasted coffee, light chocolate. The flavor followed the aroma, coffee strikingly nice at times, less impressive at others, but overall decent. The caramel, nutty roastedness behind it all made for a nice, yet simplistic brew. Thanks, Tom, a decent one. unclemattie (2370), Georgia, USA Mar 18, 2008 12oz bottle. clear medium to dark brown. Sweet malt aroma, some toasty in the nose. Flavor is a bit of coffee and toasted grains. Besides that, just to flat to WOW me! (bottled on 01.09.08) shp555 (1677), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Mar 15, 2008 Pours a nice dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma is malt, roast, and juicy pungent hops. Flavor is roasty, astringent, and a bitter juicy citrus hop finish. MaltOMeal (642), Land of Sugar, Texas, USA Feb 21, 2008 12 oz bottle thanks to OldGrowth. Pours a thin brown into black with a thin tan head which dissipated quickly. Smell was nutty. Taste was nutty and roasty with maybe a hint of coffee. Mouthfeel was medium-to-thin. This was ok, but nothing to remember. JCB (1713), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jan 10, 2008 12oz fresh from the brewery, gift from a buddy. Thanks, Mike! Nice looking pour, with a fairly nice aroma. Body is too thin, with roasted malts coming through but not enough heft or complexity. Mediocre. gotohelunc (473), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Jan 9, 2008 Draft at Brixx. Pitch black with zero head when delivered. Considering the lack of lacing, I assume there never was much head. I can barely find a hint of nuttiness on the nose. The flavor is nuts, coffee, and a TON of water. What flavor that’s there is good, but this is one hell of a watery porter that doesn’t seem like the brewer finished. It goes down perfectly smooth, but so does water and Coors Light.
