Pours dark brown, but clear and somewhat translucent with a nice tan head that subsides to a thin cover. Aroma is mostly sweet roasted malt and maybe some dry hops but it is so underwhelming that I’m struggling to get anything from it. Flavor is again dominated by roasted malt, but balanced by some hop bitterness. Palate is thin with moderately low carbonation. Easy drinking but nothing special. I remember this being much better when it was released. kp (8399), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

Aromas of roasted malts, coffee, and some dark chocolate. Flavor is dominated by dark chocolate notes, but there is also a good roasty presence that balances it out. I got a little caramel as well and maybe a little molasses. Good carbonation and a soft mouthfeel. Not a bad porter.. TheBeerGod (3153), Newport News, Virginia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 13, 2007 Bottle courtesy of OldGrowth. Bottled on 12/20/06. No ABV listed on this bottle. Deep, dark mahogany crimson mix. Faint light peers through this abyss. Foamy, frothy tan head. Sticky delicate lacing on the glass. Aroma is initially roasty and coffee-ish with soft hops and dark chocolate coming through as well. Taste is more roasted malts, thinned coffee, and baker’s chocolate. Lighter hops are present as well. Body is medium but thinner than hoped. Moderate carbonation on this. Finishes with a tad more bitterness, roasted malts, burnt caramel and coffee. Not bad at all!
