Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Nov 8, 2009 Received a single bottle from two trades from the Northwest states. Sampled from 12-oz bottle, pours a near opaque dark brown brew with a creamy light tan head that has some excellent lacing and good retention. Aroma of toasted black malt, dark chocolate, some flowery hops and a touch of sweet coffee. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation with a good balance of toasted malt and hop bitterness. Finish has a mostly dark roasted malt flavor with just a touch of hop bitterness. neepsntatties (281), Portland, Oregon, USA Oct 6, 2009 On tap at Bailey’s Taproom, Portland, OR. Colour... basically black but with dark ruby hues when held to the light. No head. Nose... smoky and roasty. Palate... frothy, very roasty, maduro, dark chocolate and quite dry. Yum! buzzoven (333), Japan Aug 20, 2009 I drank this one ages ago and forgot to rate it. I remember loving it though. Deep roasted flavours, quite robust. Had a memorable edge to it. Was a little more hoppy in the finish if i recall and had a great chocolate bitterness to it. Me like. fakepurseninja (772), Washington, USA Aug 9, 2009 Espresso bean nose. Slight resinous hop presence. Thick, smooth syrupy milk chocholate character. obguthr (986), Poquoson, Virginia, USA Jul 26, 2009 Funky (in a good way) aroma of roasted barley, mushrooms. charcoal. Dark brown, headless. Coffee and charcoal flavor. Mushroomy barley finish. My impression of this beer screams blue collar. It isn’t because it’s cheap or of poor quality. The taste just brings to mind a familiarity with work where one gets covered in soot and grime. This is a highly drinkable porter, ideal after a hard day’s work. vulcanmeister (102), La Grande, Oregon, USA Jul 19, 2009 Aroma - sweet, smoky malty, floral hoppiness
Appearance - black, opaque, generous tan head
Flavor- medium sweetness, heavy but pleasant bitterness a la dark chocolate
Palate - medium creamy mouthfeel with a long lingering light bitterness and mild carbonation
Overall impression - nice mouthfeel and good application of chocolate malts. The bitterness was just a bit much for me, but I respect it. The hops were just about right. I wish that the melody had lingered on longer than it did, but with its balance of chocolate malty goodness and hops, I enjoyed the trip.
Capa (952), Yokosuka, Japan Jul 19, 2009 #900. Black with ruby highlights and minimal head. Aroma of chocolate, light roasted malts, mocha like coffee, a touch of milk and vanilla. Thin body with a little too much carbonation. Flavor isn’t quite as nice as the aroma. Chocolate, coffee, and light roasted malts. A bit one-sided. Finishes with some bitter chocolate. Decent, but all that amazing. IrishBoy (2685), Bakersfield, California, USA Apr 12, 2009 Sample taster at John’s Marketplace. Nose is taosty with chocolate and caramel. Dark brown with a medium tan head. Flavor is chocolate with a bit of bitterness.
