The beer is a nice dark brown colour, almost black like a stout.Smallish "coffee n’creme" coloured head.
The aroma is of slightly burnt malts, some dark chocolate..and a faint whiff of coffee.
I was surprised that this beer had a smokey aspect to the taste, and a dry finish. In between are hints of black coffee and a slight taste of chocolate.
The mouthfeel is slightly on the thin side but overall not bad.
I liked this porter..the smokey aspect was great.
Like other Cascade lakes beers..this doesn’t seem to do well in bottle..or maybe they have to be drank very fresh.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 26, 2009 Funky (in a good way) aroma of roasted barley, mushrooms. charcoal. Dark brown, headless. Coffee and charcoal flavor. Mushroomy barley finish. My impression of this beer screams blue collar. It isn’t because it’s cheap or of poor quality. The taste just brings to mind a familiarity with work where one gets covered in soot and grime. This is a highly drinkable porter, ideal after a hard day’s work. Beardface (1034), Eugene, Oregon, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Oct 20, 2008 Tastes thin, smells wan, everything about the damn thing is just weak. It lost its only appeal when they changed from the amazing old label too. ChillCoat (1029), Concord, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Aug 10, 2005 Bottled. Pours brown and almost still. Nose is coffee and something burnt. The burnt flavor shows up in the flavor as well along with some caramel. Capa (990), Yokosuka, Japan
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Jul 19, 2009 #900. Black with ruby highlights and minimal head. Aroma of chocolate, light roasted malts, mocha like coffee, a touch of milk and vanilla. Thin body with a little too much carbonation. Flavor isn’t quite as nice as the aroma. Chocolate, coffee, and light roasted malts. A bit one-sided. Finishes with some bitter chocolate. Decent, but all that amazing. pinkzambia (989), Boise, Idaho, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 19, 2005 Bottle: This beer is basically black with a light brown fizzy head. It wafts the rich, full roasted malt aromas into the nasal passages creating a "thank you" sensation. The flavors are mainly mild charcoal, dark choco-mocha-nut yumminess. I enjoyed the feel on this one since it wasn’t as oily and thin as other porters. It has more substance which makes it like a comfy blanket for your tastebuds. Delicious!
