Dragon99 (57), Laramie, Wyoming, USA Nov 3, 2001 A nice, chocolate-flavored Porter. Smooth and very drinkable. StanMemTn (34), Memphis, Tennessee, USA Oct 21, 2008 A beautiful black porter. Almost desert like with its chocolate malty character. A hearty brew. buzzoven (333), Japan Aug 20, 2009 I drank this one ages ago and forgot to rate it. I remember loving it though. Deep roasted flavours, quite robust. Had a memorable edge to it. Was a little more hoppy in the finish if i recall and had a great chocolate bitterness to it. Me like. pinkzambia (986), Boise, Idaho, USA Aug 19, 2005 Bottle: This beer is basically black with a light brown fizzy head. It wafts the rich, full roasted malt aromas into the nasal passages creating a "thank you" sensation. The flavors are mainly mild charcoal, dark choco-mocha-nut yumminess. I enjoyed the feel on this one since it wasn’t as oily and thin as other porters. It has more substance which makes it like a comfy blanket for your tastebuds. Delicious! Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Nov 8, 2009 Received a single bottle from two trades from the Northwest states. Sampled from 12-oz bottle, pours a near opaque dark brown brew with a creamy light tan head that has some excellent lacing and good retention. Aroma of toasted black malt, dark chocolate, some flowery hops and a touch of sweet coffee. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation with a good balance of toasted malt and hop bitterness. Finish has a mostly dark roasted malt flavor with just a touch of hop bitterness. scrizzz (1247), kirkland, Washington, USA Jan 5, 2009 More coffee than chocolate on the nose, dark dark brown. Chocolate malt predominately, great flavor where other porters stray. Reid (1084), Salem, Oregon, USA May 16, 2004 Tasted on tap at "The Lodge" in Bend , Oregon.
The beer is a nice dark brown colour, almost black like a stout.Smallish "coffee n’creme" coloured head.
The aroma is of slightly burnt malts, some dark chocolate..and a faint whiff of coffee.
I was surprised that this beer had a smokey aspect to the taste, and a dry finish. In between are hints of black coffee and a slight taste of chocolate.
The mouthfeel is slightly on the thin side but overall not bad.
I liked this porter..the smokey aspect was great.
Like other Cascade lakes beers..this doesn’t seem to do well in bottle..or maybe they have to be drank very fresh.
Gromit (460), Port Orchard, Washington, USA Jun 28, 2004 Pours black with a nice tan head but no lace.
Scent is chocolate and roasted malt.
Taste is molases, floral hops, and a touch of chocolate. Not bad at all.
Palate is crisp and cleansing; there’s a bit more carbonation than in most Porters. Overall, it’s pretty good and worth trying. Definately better than average.
