Commercial Description:
Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate. This is the best way to describe Monkey Face Porter. It is a medium bodied porter with significant chocolate malt characteristics. But don’t let the dark color scare you. This beer finishes extremely dry with a hint of the Willamette hops used to create this perfectly balanced porter. Monkey Face Porter is perfect after a long day at the mountain or on the river!

Pours black with a nice tan head but no lace. Scent is chocolate and roasted malt. Taste is molases, floral hops, and a touch of chocolate. Not bad at all. Palate is crisp and cleansing; there’s a bit more carbonation than in most Porters. Overall, it’s pretty good and worth trying. Definately better than average.

Aroma is muted and comprised mainly of coffee grounds. Could smell better as what you get smells good, but the concentration is so low it’s like listening to an acoustic version of War Pigs with a Harpsicord accompaniment. The body is a dark brown with very faint red hues and it appears black in low light. The head is quite impressive, two fingers thick, mocha colored, creamy and quite lasting. It’s a looker. Fore is slightly dusty coffee and milk chocolate then settles to a smooth cocoa and cream flavor that ends in a mildly roasty dry finish. Flavor is acceptable, but little more yet it looks and feels very good and that salvages the beer.

Bottle. Dark brown pour with a thin beige head. Malty aroma with chocolate and caramel. Chocolate malt flavor up front with a dry, roasty coffee finish.

On tap at Bailey’s Taproom, Portland, OR. Colour... basically black but with dark ruby hues when held to the light. No head. Nose... smoky and roasty. Palate... frothy, very roasty, maduro, dark chocolate and quite dry. Yum!

#555 on my beerwall. Nice dark color with a tan head. Roasted aroma with a chocolaty-o-licious aroma. Creamy chocolate taste with coffee tones and some nice hops to back it up. Not a bad porter.

very nice dark brown or rather black color, small tan head that faded pretty fast.Malty sweet aroma with strong hints of coffee.Malty taste with a nice medium carbonation, definatley has some coffee in it but nothing real strong pretty mild, with a mild hop presence.some light hints of chocolate and possible caramel as well. The feel is slightly watery but still pretty decent the after taste was mildly sweet with roasted malt and and mild hops, coppeled with some hints of semi-sweet chocolate. Not a bad brew at all,in fact it's damn good and very highly drinkable.

Espresso bean nose. Slight resinous hop presence. Thick, smooth syrupy milk chocholate character.

From a bottle at Belmont Station--Poured a dark brown body with a rich tan two-finger beige head. Spicy, sweet, liquorish nose with a decent hop presence. Quite clean on the palate, good carbonation level, and well-balanced malt sweetness to bittering finish. Yum!
