Spicy, sweet, liquorish nose with a decent hop presence. Quite clean on the palate, good carbonation level, and well-balanced malt sweetness to bittering finish. Yum! boFNjackson (1327), Portland, Oregon, USA

Poured a deep, opaque black with amber highlights at the bottom of the glass, really thin, light brown head that dissipated quickly. Aroma is roasted nut, and malt with a hint of cocoa. Flavor is leafy, chocolate malt, and a dry hop ending with a slight coffee aftertaste. Creating a nice complex character and very satisfying. Taverner (892), San Ramon, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Dec 26, 2009 The good: deep roasty notes in the flavor. Almost smoky. Lots of carbon, which is always a good thing in a porter. The bad: Metallic taste on the finish. obguthr (1079), Poquoson, Virginia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 26, 2009 Funky (in a good way) aroma of roasted barley, mushrooms. charcoal. Dark brown, headless. Coffee and charcoal flavor. Mushroomy barley finish. My impression of this beer screams blue collar. It isn’t because it’s cheap or of poor quality. The taste just brings to mind a familiarity with work where one gets covered in soot and grime. This is a highly drinkable porter, ideal after a hard day’s work. jazz88 (2239), San Francisco, California, USA

Medium body, smooth, foamy mouthfeel. Dry, roasty, and hoppy. Some coffee and caramel/malt. Good, solid porter. 5000 (2900), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 11, 2006 Bottle: I could mistake this for a stout, its that dark. Moderate to large beige head, foamy, fairly nice lacing. Dry cocoa nose, soft roasted malts, a touch of cereal. First sip reveals heavily roasted malts, slight coffee, a touch of cocoa. Mouthfeel and body on this one are quite thin, or should I say thinner than expected. Would have never guessed based on its looks. Finishes with a sweet lactose like flair. Not bad, fairly good in fact, but wished for it to be a bit more robust.
