Commercial Description:
Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate. This is the best way to describe Monkey Face Porter. It is a medium bodied porter with significant chocolate malt characteristics. But don’t let the dark color scare you. This beer finishes extremely dry with a hint of the Willamette hops used to create this perfectly balanced porter. Monkey Face Porter is perfect after a long day at the mountain or on the river!

Not much head. Slight roasted aroma. Body could be bigger for a porter but not bad. Taste is mainly roasted malt, but also some molassis type action going on. Nice sweet molassis finish. Only slightly bitter.

(12 oz bottle: Newport Avenue Market in Redmond, OR) Starts off chocolaty and moderately sweet, but the roast soon kicks in and the beer finishes roasty, moderately bitter and dry. Sweet, chocolaty, and roasty nose is quite nice and reflects the flavor accurately. Medium bodied and gently carbonated. Very dark brown, but with a general ruddy tone. Smallish light-tan head gradually settles to a ring. Pretty much an average porter, and thus rather enjoyable for my tastes.

Bottle. Pours an ultra-deep brown color, hints of ruby. Fair tan head forms and fades out to a ring. Slight lacing. Aroma is fairly pleasant, light coffee, some nuts and chocolate. Medium bodied, runs a bit overcarbonated which detracts from mouthfeel. Decent roasted grain flavors, nutty, some chocolate with a fairly noticeable hop bitterness towards the finish. Fairly well done.

Draft @ 7th St Brewhouse, Redmond, OR. Pours a darkish brown almost black color with a longlasting off-white head. Has a roasted malty chocolate aroma. Roasted malty chocolate and coffee flavor. Has a roasted malty finish with some hints of chocolate in the aftertaste.

Aroma - sweet, smoky malty, floral hoppiness Appearance - black, opaque, generous tan head Flavor- medium sweetness, heavy but pleasant bitterness a la dark chocolate Palate - medium creamy mouthfeel with a long lingering light bitterness and mild carbonation Overall impression - nice mouthfeel and good application of chocolate malts. The bitterness was just a bit much for me, but I respect it. The hops were just about right. I wish that the melody had lingered on longer than it did, but with its balance of chocolate malty goodness and hops, I enjoyed the trip.

12 oz bottle, via Dubbercody. Pours a very dark brown colored body under a one finger foamy brown head with decent retention. Aroma is very chocolaty with a light hoppy bitterness. Lighter notes of yeast and a grainy huskiness. Flavor is a little weak, but what is there is pretty decent. Chocolaty with minimal roast, it finishes dry with a little chalk. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with fine active carbonation. Texture is oily. Overall, a little weak in the flavor and mouthfeel, but this could be tweaked just slightly and be an excellent beer.

Picked up a sixer at the grocery store. Faint aroma of roasted nuts and malt. Pours black with not much head. Some lacing. Tastes of chocolate, malt and hops in the background. Not too much going on here. A decent porter to be sure, but much better to be had in the area.
