Commercial Description:
Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate. This is the best way to describe Monkey Face Porter. It is a medium bodied porter with significant chocolate malt characteristics. But don’t let the dark color scare you. This beer finishes extremely dry with a hint of the Willamette hops used to create this perfectly balanced porter. Monkey Face Porter is perfect after a long day at the mountain or on the river!

Dark brown with a small, quick tan head. Roasty/malty/alcoholic aroma. Medium body, smooth, foamy mouthfeel. Dry, roasty, and hoppy. Some coffee and caramel/malt. Good, solid porter.

The good: deep roasty notes in the flavor. Almost smoky. Lots of carbon, which is always a good thing in a porter. The bad: Metallic taste on the finish.

What an awesome porter. Thanks to Brando for bringing this gem back. Cocoa, coffee and burnt toast and smoke on the nose. Equal in flavour also. Toasty and chocolatey with some breadiness on the palate. Beautiful colour, kind of muddy and monkey like with some shit floating around. Great beer overall. Non stop beauty from all these awesome beers.

Received a single bottle from two trades from the Northwest states. Sampled from 12-oz bottle, pours a near opaque dark brown brew with a creamy light tan head that has some excellent lacing and good retention. Aroma of toasted black malt, dark chocolate, some flowery hops and a touch of sweet coffee. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation with a good balance of toasted malt and hop bitterness. Finish has a mostly dark roasted malt flavor with just a touch of hop bitterness.

On tap at Bailey’s Taproom, Portland, OR. Colour... basically black but with dark ruby hues when held to the light. No head. Nose... smoky and roasty. Palate... frothy, very roasty, maduro, dark chocolate and quite dry. Yum!

I drank this one ages ago and forgot to rate it. I remember loving it though. Deep roasted flavours, quite robust. Had a memorable edge to it. Was a little more hoppy in the finish if i recall and had a great chocolate bitterness to it. Me like.

Espresso bean nose. Slight resinous hop presence. Thick, smooth syrupy milk chocholate character.

Funky (in a good way) aroma of roasted barley, mushrooms. charcoal. Dark brown, headless. Coffee and charcoal flavor. Mushroomy barley finish. My impression of this beer screams blue collar. It isn’t because it’s cheap or of poor quality. The taste just brings to mind a familiarity with work where one gets covered in soot and grime. This is a highly drinkable porter, ideal after a hard day’s work.

Aroma - sweet, smoky malty, floral hoppiness Appearance - black, opaque, generous tan head Flavor- medium sweetness, heavy but pleasant bitterness a la dark chocolate Palate - medium creamy mouthfeel with a long lingering light bitterness and mild carbonation Overall impression - nice mouthfeel and good application of chocolate malts. The bitterness was just a bit much for me, but I respect it. The hops were just about right. I wish that the melody had lingered on longer than it did, but with its balance of chocolate malty goodness and hops, I enjoyed the trip.
