wetherel (1565), Encinitas, California, USA Aug 18, 2009 11.3% monster at toncatcher’s T3 tasting. Looking forward to this. Very hoppy. Dry. Very IPA ish. Alcohol present. Light sourness. Not as good as I was hoping. Snojerk321 (1914), San Diego, California, USA Jun 21, 2009 unlabeled 22oz bottle. Pours a completely hazy deep copper color with a small beige head that left some spotty lacing. Nose of roasted toffee, caramel, light oxidation, a little vegetative. Flavor was also lightly oxidized notes of caramel and toffee. Finish had a kind of herbal funkiness to it, pretty good overall. AmEricanbrew (1747), Louisiana, USA Jun 11, 2009 Unlabelled bomber shared by the great Mr G. Clear amber with a fleeting head. Boozy bourbon barrel aroma with some tart citrus. Medium body with light carbonation. Caramel, pitfruit, and bourbon vanilla flavors with lightly sour lemon. Sweet tart Barleywine. Good stuff. after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Apr 20, 2009 22, unlabelled. Thanks, SuzyGreenberg! And thanks Ron, as well, of course. Suzy just happens to be the one hooking us up this particular afternoon. Crystal clear medium amber. Headless. Laceless. Big white-wine-y nose. Some caramel and biscuit there. Creamy medium body. Sticky. Bright chardonnay lemonyness. Mild, lightly tart finish. Fascinating, offbeat, great stuff. Lagunitasfan (432), San Diego, California, USA Apr 6, 2009 T3. Liked this one! Hazy orange color, with a strong, sticky head and lace. Nose is caramel, yeast, and sugar. Taste is citrus, yeast, and a full bodied tartness. Sharp and fruity, with grapes hidden in the back. Yummy. padrefan98 (787), (San Diego) Santee, California, USA Apr 5, 2009 Served from a bottle at toncatchers T3 tasting! Thanks to stefanje, lagunitasfan, weeheavysd, fordest, wetherel, alohac and of course toncatcher for suppling the house and grub. Rating # 5 cool! Thanks for the bring WeeheavySD. Malty yeast and a little sweetness. Very nice barley wine. stefanje (936), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Apr 5, 2009 Hand-bottle at Toncatchers T3. Provided by Wee Heavy. Pours a cloudy light brown color with a medium off-white head. The aroma was dry wood and citrus with a bit of spice. The taste had a slightly sharp quality with spices that I could not identify and a good dry malt backbone. The palate seemed just a bit thin to me. Overall: Not my favorite of the evening, but not a bad brew at all. WeeHeavySD (2940), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Apr 4, 2009 Hell yeah, rating 3, I’m so pretty much hell yeah because of ben suzygreenburg, I am in debt as he would say, Ben is my buddy plain and simple, I’ll do what I can for him he’ll do what he can for me. Screw top 750ml growler, yeah ben, yeah. Pours orange with a bright white ring. Nose is sweet with caramel. Great to have this, because I say Ron is a genious as such this doesn’t dissapoint. Taste is sweet light and rich yumm with some lemon candy at the end if that sounds bad screw it, you have no palate because this barleywine has some citrus at the end, so there, good work, Ron.
